Vehicle Detail
This is a 1958 Ariel Square Four - "Custom" project. The gentleman who owned and was planning to build it, recently passed away - literally a barn find that I heard about thru a friend. It has a clear Washington state title from 1972. The engine number (VIN) is listed on the title, the frame number is not - after doing some checking, I don't believe the engine and frame numbers came from the factory as a match and I'm pretty sure that the frame is the original one (been modified) -- engine # CNML 1328 / frame # CGM 1322 . As you can see, it's a full blown project bike. The frame appears to have been "raked" out and the seat area of the frame, has been filled in. Also, the lugs for the original tank are missing for sure. I would think the frame could be returned to stock, but it definately requires work! - other options would be to build it into a unique "Custom Square Four" or build a "cafe racer special", using a different frame, featherbed? As it sits now, it's basically loosely assembled - Yamaha front end, aftermarket fuel tank, stock oil tank etc.. Everything you see in the pics, goes with the bike, as I received it - I have no other parts for it. The motor and tranny are bolted loosely in the frame as well. The transmission turns and goes thru the gears (4) - the bottom end is together with the cylinder block bolted on, crank turns freely and the pistons go up and down. There are some broken fins on the cylinder and I've been told this is because of poor casting methods and that they would crack and fall off! The head is loose and rockers are off . The generator and distributor are both intact, but the distributor cap is missing. The inner/outer primary covers need some repairing ?? (see pic) The clutch is apart, but looks complete. The carb is a large SU type, that I've been told came off of something else? - it's stamped in 2 locations PDC3, ZX1611 - also, stamped on the linkage is ZX1609 . As for the rest - the exhaust pipes look good and except for a couple of small dings, appear in excellent conditon. Also, it has a Lucas voltage regulator, model RB108 , in the parts. Also with it comes what I think is the stock front fork assy and front wheel (see pics) - there are no stands with it. The bottom line is that this is definately a project bike, that would make a unique and interesting build, for someone with the imagination and skills to do it. Either way, I don't have enough time for another project, so it's going to have to find a new home and get the TLC that it deserves. Email me, if you have any questions and I'll try to answer them. Serious bidders in my area are welcome to see it and check it out - I'm in Maple Falls, Wa. I will require an initial deposit of $500.00 by Paypal, within 24 hours of auction ending/balance to be paid in full and bike picked up within 7 days (cash) - I am located approx. 100 miles N.E. of Seattle, Wa. I do not crate, but there is a company - haul bikes.com - that will pick up motorcycles and deliver them anywhere in the country (strap to pallet) - the loose parts could be shipped separately by UPS or the Postal Service, priced accordingly- buyer would be responsible for all shipping arrangments and charges. I would accept a cashiers check in advance, if the bike is going to be shipped out, but it would have to clear my bank before being shipped (usually 5-8 business days) - would still require the $500.00 Paypal deposit in 24 hrs. Zero or negative feedback bidders, please contact me before bidding. No international bidders please - I will only sell to buyers in the USA. thankyou, John
