Vehicle Detail
Up for your consideration is this very rare 1969 Torino GT fastback or sportsroof with the optional 428 cobra Jet engine with non ram air or "Q Code" and C-6 automatic transmission. Options are power steering, power disc brakes (front), AM radio, console, and bucket seats. According to the Fairlane Torino Cobra registry online, there are only 190 surviving examples of this particular body style counting this one. Of those, it is unclear how many of them were built with the mighty cobra jet engine since Ford didn't track them by engine size - only body style. There are very few left to be sure. This one was Wimbledon White with red "C" stripe and dark red or burgundy interior. The door tag, dash VIN tag, and title numbers all match and it has been inspected by the Delta Sherriff's Office and run through the DMV in Denver. There are no issues and I hold a clear Colorado title in my name only which is free of any liens or encumbrances. The door tag reads: 63D M 8D 30M 51 A U . This car was built Dec. 30th, 1968 in Kansas City and was delivered to O'Meara Ford in Denver. I bought the car from the second owner in Western Colorado where I reside. This car has never left the state and it still wears the O'Meara badge next to the drivers tail lamp! I need to state plainly here that this is a 98% original PROJECT CAR that doesn't currently run. It steers, rolls, and (kinda) stops so it will load onto a transport truck/trailer easily. I will be happy to assist loading it and I am flexible for its removal timeframe but would like to see it gone in 30 days. This car was last registered in 1989 and ran when parked. I know the engine is locked up and I have removed the spark plugs and put 2 qts. of Marvel Mystery oil into the cylinders and it has reached the oil pan. I would only possibly hurt the engine by trying to turn it. It is going to need rebuilt anyways so it is a non issue. The oil was on the full mark of the correct chrome handled dipstick C7OE-6750-A and it had no sign of water in it. I pulled the pass side valve cover and the rockers, etc. look fantastic with zero rust and a coating of old oil on everything. The heads are a matched pair having codes of C7AE-A (picture 15) and the one has a date code of 7C21 or March 21, 1967. According to the website 428cobrajet.org these are 390 S code as well as 428 pi heads and were used on the 67 Shelby GT 500 dual quad 428 pi but not on the CJ. The CJ had non adjustable rockers for the hydraulic camshaft but the 67 Shelby 428 pi with solid lifteers used these adjustables that are on these heads. They also state that these heads don't bolt onto factory 428 CJ exhaust manifolds; however these DO. The pass side exhaust manifold is C8OE-9430-D which is correct. I have tried my best to see a VIN stamp with a mirror but can't see it. I can feel what seems like numbers in the correct spot though. Not all 69 CJ blocks received partial VIN stamps and some were even on the back of the drivers side head. The date code by the oil filter (picture 12) plainly reads: 8L12 WI or Dec. 12, 1968 which is nuts on correct. The carb is the original C8OF-9510-H with tag (worth $1,000 alone!). The intake is original C8OE-9425-C dated 8J9 or Sept. 9, 1968. The Radiator is original C8OE-F1 with tag 543. The shroud is original and perfect C8OE-8146-A. The chrome valve covers are original and stamped LH 10 3 D2 or Oct. 3rd 2nd shift and RH 11 4 D3 or Nov. 4th 3rd shift. It is missing the air cleaner snorkel, S tube, and vacuum motor but the base and lid are original and correct in decent shape (no dents). The brackets and pulleys are all present and in good shape and appear as original. The drivers side valve cover breather is correct style but should be chrome. The pass side valve cover special elbow and clamps are in great shape. The power steering pump, power brake booster, and even the master cylinder are believed original also. The transmission has RF C8OP 7A 040-A and has the cast iron tailshaft housing it is supposed to and appears original also. A partial VIN should be stamped on the top but is not visible when installed. The rearend still has yellow marked numbers on the pumpkin and looks original. The alternator has a red band around it but I don't know if it is original. The starter looks original. The original battery tray and original hold down are present and isn't rusted through with no battery acid damage anywhere. The water pump looks like C9AE-8505-A but might be C8AE. The distributor is a mallory, the fan is incorrect, the drivers LH mirror is broken, it needs an antenna, and one GT emblem is missing from a center cap. All trim (except the GT emblem and antenna) not on the car is with the car including the rear decklid trim, RH eyebrow molding for the front fender, an extra very nice pair of A pillar windshield moldings, radio, ash tray, the 6 gills for the quarter roof, and even the original floor mats (these are all in the trunk). In addition it comes with a pair of NOS Cobra Jet script hood scoop emblems, a NOS set of front turn signal lenses, a new correct set of CJ battery cables, and a 4 piece set of windows from another 1969 Torino Fastback still in their shipping boxes. All of the jack, spinner nuts, etc. are original and in good shape but the lug wrench is gone. Even the original trunk carpet/mat is in good shape. The glass is needed since the 2 drivers side windows are broken. Back glass and trim are very nice. Front original windshield is cracked but original wipers are nice. Hood has a slight bow but opens and closes fine. Hood scoop is exceptionally nice (with correct 428 badges) as is the grill. Both bumpers are great cores. The front valance, fenders, both doors, both rockers, deck lid, trunk, trunk lip area, tail pan, rear window area, cowl, firewall, hood, and top are all rust free. The frame rails, torque boxes, front cross member, etc. have very light surface rust as normal. There are numerous dents, scratches, and war wounds (literally) on this car including some on the top. NONE are non repairable by even an average body man. A bullet hole was found in the core support on the pass side. Evidently it went through the headlight, core support, and into the battery which stopped it. Was this a bank robbers car??!!The drivers rear quarter has a large dent (no crease) right behind the door which causes the door to not want to close correctly. The worst rust on this entire car is by that dent in front of the rear wheel and behind the wheel well down very low. It will require patching. The passenger rear quarter is just starting to bubble in the same 2 spots with a small "pinhole" as shown. The last 4 pictures detail the rust in the quarters. The passenger door seems to be locked and will not open. You will need to remove the door panel to get it open. The drivers side floor pan will need patched or replaced from the glass being broken and allowing the weather in. A partial buildsheet was found (destroyed by getting wet) behind the drivers seat under the carpet. There might be another in the seat springs, I haven't looked. All of the interior is present but heavily weathered. The console is present but needs TLC. The dash is dirty but not cracked. All factory instrumentation is present and in good appearance (non tach car) and aftermarket gauges also present. The steering wheel is cracked. This is a true "Barn Find" and is a really rare opportunity. This car has not been offered for sale to the public since 1969! I have restored several dozen cars to an extremely high level but I don't have time for this one. I have sold many on Ebay and pride myself on my descriptions and customer service. Please see my feedback! Any questions or concerns just call me at (970) 712-2738 Barry. Any requests for additional pictures email me at bavollmert@q.com and I will try to oblige. Neither the vehicle or the title leave my possession until paid for in full. Out of country bidders may call me to buy this car.
