The 2005 Cadillac CTS could be called the great American sports sedan. It certainly fits that description with its sporty handling, exhilarating acceleration and powerful braking. With an MSRP of nearly $40,000, this CTS is nicely equipped with both the Luxury and Sport Packages. The more powerful, 3.6-liter VVT engine develops 255 horsepower at 6200 rpm and 252 pound-feet of torque at 3200 rpm. The Sport Package on this CTS (cost $1,875) takes the suspension tuning a step further with monotube shocks, brake pads with more anti-fade heat resistance, 17-inch alloy wheels with 255/50R17 tires, load-leveling rear suspension, speed-sensitive power steering, and StabiliTrak electronic stability control. The Luxury Package on this CTS (cost $3,165) includes dual, heated and power front seats, memory presets for two drivers, auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass, HomeLink universal garage door transmitter, alarm system, and a wood-trimmed steering wheel and shift knob. Owned by a mature, non-smoking professor who resided in Southern CA, this beautiful, 2005 Cadillac CTS was kept garaged, pampered and meticulously maintained at the Cadillac dealer. Exterior: The CTS was the first production car using Cadillac's new Art & Science design vocabulary first shown on the Evoq concept car. The design is a festival of wedges, sharp junctions and chiseled angles that can be seen throughout the latest generation of Cadillacs. The edgy design is distinctive. There's no confusing a Cadillac with anything else. If you look closely at the many detailed photos, you’ll appreciate is how pristine this car really is. From the sparkling exterior’s factory finish to its immaculate leather interior and engine compartment; everything about this Cadillac exudes pride of ownership. With the exception of a couple panels where minor repairs were made from a parking lot mishap, the finish is 100% factory original. The coachwork is laser straight and smooth. The immaculate finish speaks volumes about the loving care this Cadillac has always received and underscores the car's Southern California provenance. A power moonroof was recently installed and works perfectly with no leaks or wind noises. Newer BF Goodrich radials and 17” alloy wheels still have amazing detail. Speaking of detail, let us stress how straight the body is, how glossy the paint: if you wouldn't know differently, you'd think to be looking at a 6-month old, not a 6-year old car. This one is that clean! We'll inspect the interior next, shall we? Always garaged and never smoked in, the leather trimmed interior is absolutely flawless. Everything from the carpet to the headliner appears untouched. Side-impact airbags are included in addition to the standard dual frontal airbags. The dual-zone climate control, power & heated seats, driver information center and audio system all work flawlessly. The three-spoke steering wheel contains buttons for the audio system and is deliciously padded in leather for all but the part of the rim between about 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock, which is trimmed in wood. Changing the temperature and adjusting the stereo system are easy and convenient. The center stack juts out from the rest of the dash. The AM/FM audio system with CD guarantees pleasurable audio, even when traveling at speeds well above the double nickel. Separate driver/passenger climate controls as well as the heated seats buttons are located here at the bottom of the consol. The instruments and onboard computer all work flawlessly and the 47,585 original miles are all meticulously maintained 5-Speed Automatic with traction control has amazing performance and handling features. Dealer service records and both keys with locking remotes are included. Power moonroof has sliding shade as well. OnStar™ System and compass are located in the rearview mirror. OnStar allows drivers to make hands-free, voice-activated calls. OnStar operators will call out the emergency crews if the airbags go off and you don't respond, they can unlock the doors for you, or direct you to the nearest gas station, ATM or Italian restaurant. Everything looks, smells and feels as if the car was delivered yesterday, not 6 years ago. The spacious trunk contains the spare wheel/tire, jack & lug wrench. A picture says more than a thousand words: this trunk is clean! Let’s take a look under the hood. Engine & Mechanical: Like the rest of the car, the immaculate engine compartment exudes prides of ownership. Services were performed at the recommended intervals making this CTS mechanically as strong as it is cosmetically. Yes, any Cadillac can be very tough and reliable with a bit of preventative maintenance! Drivability: This CTS drives wonderfully around town. It cruises comfortably on the freeway and feels at home on winding roads. The 3.6-liter V6 engine with VVT (Variable Valve Timing) is silky smooth when cruising and responds quickly whenever you step on the gas; a benefit of its broad torque curve. It's a thoroughly modern engine with a 60-degree aluminum block, double overhead cams, variable-valve timing, electronic throttle control, six coils and a structural oil pan. Amazingly, this engine gets an EPA-estimated mileage of 18/27 mpg City/Highway and runs on regular, 87 octane gasoline. The five-speed automatic transmission is superb. In normal mode, it shifts smooth and silky. Selecting the Sport mode changes the transmission's attitude, giving it sharp and decisive response. Ride and handling are impeccable, smooth, steady, and predictable. The CTS feels solid, but not heavy. Steering is precise, with just the right amount of resistance from the speed-sensitive power steering. Cadillac tuned the suspension at Germany's legendary Nurburgring circuit, because that's where German sports sedans are developed, and Cadillac was eager to challenge them on their terms. It shows. The suspension is nicely damped so the ride is very comfortable, erasing the bumps. Still, the suspension is there when you need it in the rippling twisty curves. In short, this CTS is fun to drive! Its rear-wheel drive, crisp handling and prodigious horsepower work together when charging out of corners. Go into a corner too quick and StabiliTrak electronic stability control is there to reduce the chance of a skid, applying just the right amount of brake and throttle correction to keep the CTS on the road. The anti-lock brakes with brake proportioning work very well with powerful, predictable braking. Slam on the brakes at 70 miles an hour and there's no drama: no squealing, no swerving. In any climate, the powerful engine starts every time, idles, revs and pulls effortlessly without unusual noises or hesitation and accelerates strong and smooth leaving no smoke in your rear-view mirror. The 5-speed, automatic transmission shifts seamlessly. Steering is precise and the 4-wheel ABS disc brakes anchor the car securely, in a straight line, and without any hint of fading. Aided with traction control and 17” alloy wheels, handling and braking are superb with no rattles, shakes, shimmies or pulls. With only 47,576 original miles, this CTS still looks, feels and drives like a brand new car, is perfectly reliable and ready to be driven anywhere; even across the Country, if that's where you live. Finally, with an original MSRP nearly $40,000, the 2005 Cadillac CTS has reached the bottom-end of the depreciation curve; a perfect time to buy.
