Here is a Classic Honda VF1000R with very low miles! 8600 miles to be exact! It’s the real thing – that original 1000cc R-series Honda crotch rocket that started it all. If you are a collector or enthusiast, you know all about it. If not, do some research and you’ll become a fan. Honda only brought these bikes to the U.S. in 1985 and 1986. This is the dual headlight ’86 version and I am pretty sure it is one of the lowest mileage examples left. Just 8600 miles on this one – that’s an average of 344 miles per year. Yes, you read that right! It is far from perfect but this is a mostly original, unmolested version of the now hard to find VF1000R. These liquid cooled V4s with gear driven double overhead camshafts produced 117 (some say 122) horsepower. Their sound was unmistakable. So was their appearance. Some words from the previous owner: “I bought it in 2002 as the lowest mileage example I could find (and afford). I had wanted one since the 80's. My intention was to repair the fiberglass (see pictures), repaint it, and have one of the best examples of this bike in the country. The full fairing is real fiberglass, not the plastic you get today, so it’s easy to touch up. Instead, it has sat in my garage with the occasional trip around the block. It starts and runs perfectly, but I admit now that I’m never going to get to it. Please see the pictures. There is road rash on both sides – I didn’t do it! “ It’s all here (even the rear seat cover which is usually missing some 25 years later), and it runs great. In addition to the bike as you see in the pictures I also have a service manual and a collection of articles about this bike bound together from Ian Smith (good reading if you like the old sport bikes). I have replaced the fork oil seals and dust seals along with fresh fluid. I also installed new EBC brake pads and flushed and bled the brake fluid. The motor runs very strong and has no cam or oiling issues. It does not have any kind of aftermarket cam oiling modification. The cams are perfect. It shifts through all gears with no issues. This is a very strong motor as it should be with under 9,000 miles on it. It could just use some cosmetic love. If you do not love these old machines, please do not bid. This needs to go to someone who remembers this classic bike and wants a low mileage example, in mostly original but far from perfect condition VF1000R. Look around. If you find a better example, please buy it. I do reserve the right to sell the bike locally at anytime and cancel this auction. I do have it listed elsewhere. I have the title in hand.
