Vehicle Detail
AVAILABLE FOR SALE: A RARE OPPORTUNITY to own a ~ Manual Transmission ~ PORSCHE 928 with the factory Competition Group Package. This one has been finished in Black with Black leather (also quite uncommon), which is set off nicely by the 18" Turbo Twist style wheels (wearing nearly new Bridgestone Tires). The car has always been treated with respect, and remains in very good condition. She wears a PA SAFETY INSPECTION valid until 10/12... one of the toughest inspection processes around these days, and will include an envelope of previous service records. Also included will be the original owner's manual, and a copy of the original window sticker from when the car was new. The sticker shows an astounding $42,550 sale price in 1981, inclusive of the $1,100 Competition Group, the $295 Automatic Climate Control, and $590 for the Limited Slip Rear Differential, among other details. Inside, you’ll find working power windows and locks, as well as COLD working automatic A/C. This is a very nice car with some expected flaws from 2 decades of life. You'll find a scuff here, a small ding there, and stone chip somewhere in between, but as you can tell from the pictures, the car presents very well. The leather interior is in remarkable shape for the age of the car, but again not "perfect", and the dashboard leather and the steering wheel wrap are showing their age. Please supersize the pictures... in general, it's quite impressive. Functionally... the car drives like a small plane flies ~ smooth and strong. I highly recommend a test drive, and the car will sell itself. Negatives... which I generally find to be more important than positives for an online auction, are hard to come up with. As with every other manual transmission 928 that I've ever heard of, there's some clutch chatter when released (dual mass clutch system), and the gearbox is somewhat balky, but both are quite easy to get past as you get used to the car, and the clutch engages fully and easily with no slippage at all. The exhaust (Magna Flow), brakes (cross-drilled rotors), and rear shocks are recent, and she's even clean underneath. Never a drop on the garage floor. I suppose to be really critical, the original Blaupunkt radio is only marginal at age 30, and there's a small (approximately dime-sized, and already filled to keep it from spreading) chip in the windshield. Over all... a very nice car, and a ridiculously rare example. I bought the car at the beginning of "fun car season" this year, and have enjoyed her every day. People wonder why I show up at work with a big smile on my face. NO ONE... possibly including yourself... will ever believe how little you paid for this car after it's on your driveway. As 4WD season is looming around the bend in Central PA, it's time to offer her up for someone else to enjoy through the fall, and for years to come. Payment in full must be made within 7 days of the close of the auction, following a non-refundable $500 deposit through PayPal that must be received within 24 hours of the auction ending. Payment methods accepted for the balance will be real cash, a verifiable cashier's check from a bank with local branches in central PA, or a bank wire transfer directly to my credit union (preferred). The title is clear, in hand, and in my name, so there will be no paperwork mysteries. If your plan is to come to Harrisburg to pick up the 928, I can arrange to pick you up at the airport (MDT), bus, or train station. If you would be planning to ship the car, DAS has a Harrisburg terminal. I can drop the her off with them, or we can make our schedule fairly flexible to arrange to meet any other transport service of your choice at the house. The Porsche can stay here after payment in full has been received for up to a month to accommodate YOUR schedule - garaged, and of course - not driven. The mileage on the 928 today shows 107,466 (backed up by the title), but I'll be adding a few miles to that for test drives if anyone local wishes to stop by... and for personal use. Anticipate an extra 500 miles or so. There is also a current ad running locally on Craigslist. If a local sale takes place, this auction will be removed without delay. Once a bid above the reserve has been made here, the local ad will be removed, and the car will only be sold through this auction. PLEASE ASK any and all questions... your bid is a binding contract to purchase - not to consider. Thanks for looking, and take care. Rob. On Aug-12-11 at 18:46:07 PDT, seller added the following information: JUST A NOTE: I'm not sure how it happened, but I just noticed that some of the pre-filled ebay auction information carried over from a BMW that I previously sold. The additional information blocks indicate that this car has a driver's side air bag and a sunroof, obviously (from the pictures if nothing else) neither of which are true. This 928 is a slick-top, and there were no airbags in the Porsche line-up for the 1981 model year. Also, in answer to a couple of questions, the RADIATOR, WATER PUMP, TIMING BELT and V-BELTS ($2,198) were changed at 104,328 miles, and the HEAD GASKETS ($3,120) were changed at 105,587. The porsche cover seen in some of the pictures will, of course, come with the car. Also, there is a 5th Turbo Twist style wheel that comes with the car to be used as a spare. It doesn't quite match the rest, but far beats the Space-Saver spare. Thanks for all the interest! ~ Rob.
