Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my 1953 Ford Mainline. Folks this car looks like it's been in a time capsule since 1973. 1972 is the last inspection date on it. I believe it was an original Georgia car but it now has a clear NC title. I feel like I should put it in a shed and just save it but I don't really have the space to do that. It runs and drives like I imagine it did back in 1953 and I really injoy driving it. My wife and I like to jump in it on Sunday evenings with the windows down and the vent glasses pulled and drive. The Flat head V8 runs like a dream and the three speed tranny shifts as slick as any I've seen. This engine runs so quite. It will ease up my steep drive way in second gear and still run 70MPH on a smooth road. This car still had the original plug wires on it when I got it. The gentleman I got the car from told me that the brakes had just been gone through, the radiator had been rebuilt, and the water pumps had been replaced. I know that is true because it has new rubber brake lines and the brakes work very nice with NO wondering over the road when you mash the petal. The radiator and water pump look like new and the car never offers to overheat. Let me tell you about the body on this car. The best I can tell this car has never been painted. Looks like the quarter panels may have been touched up years ago with Laquer paint but other than that it looks like factory paint. The body is super staight and solid. The only rust through that I have found was on the very lower left rear quarter panel and in the right rear floor pan. Someone already welded metal in the floor and did a great job. The trunk looks good and solid and still has the original jacking instuctions and the original jack in it. The doors, trunk lid, and the hood shut like they were new. The windows roll up and down very smooth. All the glass looks great with the exception of the vent windows. They are smoky but they work good. All of the lights work, even the tag light still works. The head lights work on low beam but the drimmer switch is bad on hight beam. Let's talk about the inside of the car. Best I can tell it still has the original interior in the car. The seats need recovering but the door panels are still in good shape. The headliner looks to be original but it's drooping a little. The front floor matt looks to be original also. All the gauges work good and the oil pressure pegs the needle. The heater blower motor even works. The dash lights and the interior light even work. I can hear the radio come on but there is no sound. The dash pocket is still in great shape. The wipers work as good as any vacuum wipers that I've seen. It has the dual action fuel pump so they have good vacuum most of the time. The tires are still the oringinal type white walls and have good tread. This old Ford has 43,000 miles showing on the odometer and I was told this was the correct miles. I believe this to be true. This is the last year of the flathead and the one with the most horse power that Ford offered in a car. To sum it up: If you have been wanting an original old flathead ford car to restore or just to drive, this is one of the best I've ever seen.
