Vehicle Detail
Here's a beautiful 1973 Jaguar XKE Roadster that I have listed for a friend. This car is quite possibly a one-owner vehicle but it was left to the owners daughter in his estate and she's not 100% certain when he purchased it. We do know that it was definitely in the 1970's when he did buy it and the 26,123 miles on the odometer is said to be the true original miles. It was parked on a non-op in 1996 and kept in storage (driven occasionally) until 2010 when she had a mechanic check it over to make sure everything was ok and had it registered again in order to sell it. I've driven it about 20 miles myself and checked it over the best I could and here's what I know: The paint is not original and has some bad spots. It's looks perfect from twenty feet away but it does have some scratches here and there but nothing too noticeable. There's some minor damage right at the base of the antenna and the rear trunk lid area has "checking" in the paint from sun damage (came in through the garage window). I looked under the carpets, under the spare in the truck and underneath the car and I didn't see any rust at all. One thing about cars from here in the valley is that the dry climate is great for keeping old cars rust free and this one is no exception. The convertible top has been replaced with what looks to be a high quality Robbins top with the upgraded sun-fast material (top boot is included). The chrome bumpers, trim, etc. look really, really good. The chrome on the wire wheels have a few bad spots but still look nice and shiny. Inside, the interior appears original with the drivers seat showing wear on the upper left hand side (entry/exit wear) and one tear on the bottom. The shift indicator is missing the letters and the vents for the A/C have some flaps missing. The round knob is off of the drivers side windshield crank but we have it. The horn button is loose but the horn works fine. The speedometer, tachometer, odometer all work fine as well as the amp meter, temp gauge, oil pressure gauge and even the clock but the fuel gauge is NOT working. Also, the brake "light" on the dash is always on and I'm thinking it's the sender in the brake fluid reservoir. I opened it up to check the fluid and it looks a little rough. The parking brake is fine so I don't think that has anything to do with it. The engine starts right up, sounds good and runs great. It drives great on the freeway and the transmission shifts well. At 60 mph, the temp gauge is right on the "N", the oil pressure is right in between 40 and 80 and the amp gauge is in between 13 and 16. The air conditioning blows but does not get cold. All in all, I would call this a nice Sunday driver. It's a car you can drive and enjoy, not a trailer queen. It's here in Fresno, California and can be seen by appointment anytime. The pictures were taken on 7-21-11 so they are current and represent the car well. Please ask any questions you may have before bidding.
