Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 This is nice-looking 1987 Mercedes-Benz 420SEL. I bought the car with around 175,000 miles from an estate as the previous owner had died, an elderly gentleman who was in one accident (not a big accident and he died of old age, in case you care). I am not sure if he was the only driver but he was the first buyer. It had been rear-ended and I repaired the damage, had the car painted and have owned it since. The color is actually a newer burgundy benz color and looks great from a distance but the paint is starting to chip in places. There are a few dents and one bad scrap around the left rear wheelwell plus a few hints of rust but, otherwise, body is sound. The interior is tan leather and is in great shape. Carpeting is not torn but there are the typical stains from a car with 25 years of experience. This has the 4.2 liter V8 motor which has mechanical fuel injection. It can be hard to warm up but most of the parts like the fuel regulator have already been replaced. I have been told that the solder joints under the fuel pump relay need to be resoldered since I just replaced the fuel pump relay. Once warmed up, it runs great. The transmission is in good shape and it is the 4-speed automatic which may be one of the more reliable benz trannys out there. Windows all work but switches for the back can act up. Same with the moonroof so I don’t use it anymore. Power seats, fog lights, cruise all work. Automatic Door locks require installation of the vacuum pump but it is in the trunk. I repaired the front sway bar recently which was an expensive deal. A/C is R-12 and needs to be converted so don’t know if it won’t turn right on with a charge but, not worth buying R-12 anymore. Car may be due for wheel alignment. So what’s special about this car? HR springs, Eibach shocks, lowered. Grab the wood Momo steering wheel and this baby corners better than most cars and a lot better than any other W126. Seriously, this car handles great. Tires and brakes seem to be in good condition. Brake calipers painted red. Windows are tinted. This is actually a good-looking car that needs to have TLC to have everything in good shape. It is nearly 25 years old and looks classic. Gas mileage is great for a older big car (around 17mpg or better). Pioneer cd unit with cool OLED display and infinity speakers sound great. Trunk has Dynamat sound insulation matting installed. Mileage currently 215k but, as it my daily driver, mileage may be greater. This car is for sale locally so I may end the ad early.
