Vehicle Detail

This is a Packard 2382-5-XXXXX with clear title for it from the great state of IN! I first saw an ad for this car on Craig's List and thought that it was well within my means (read money and time) to restore this rare old beauty. They only made about 4722 of these Super 8's and there is only ONE other listed at the Packard Forum Registry. I was working full-time then so I took on a lot of part-time work to buy parts for this car. Then disaster struck and I lost my job. I truly hope that the person that buys this one will do what needs to be done to fix it up and drive it. As I'm looking at the ad I saved, I'm still surprised by my own gullibility. These are some quotes from the ad. It stated (quoted), "It is missing the grill, but other wise compleat", "looks like someone has rebuilt the engion", the only major rust is in the rockers", "the front floors and trunk are good", "only minor rust". When I got there to look at the car it was parked in the middle of a lot of other cars in a big downtown warehouse and you could not even open the doors. The trunk was full of old, and some new, parts. Plus, the engine had plastic over it so you could not see it; but, the guy seemed honest enough and I am a trusting type of guy myself (too much for my own good I've been told). So I forked over the money to buy the car and asked him when he could get it out of all that mess and if he would hold it for a month without charge. He agreed so we made a deal. I learned that when you're dealing with this new breed of "hot rodders" around here you count your fingers after you shake hands :-). So, I'll lose some money and learn another lesson. So, now about the car, it is a 1950 Packard Super 8 Touring Sedan with a 327 engine and a 3-speed overdrive transmission. The body actually is in pretty good shape with only surface rust and no major rust through except that the rockers are about gone below the front driver's side door and pretty bad below the front passenger side door. The engine looks like it might have been worked on at some point because there is a set of engine gaskets with the car with some unused and a lot of used gaskets BUT whoever did it left the oil pan off the car and the rod bearing have rust on them. To me, this means that the entire engine will have to be pulled and redone but I'm no expert. The driver's wing window is gone but the frame is there; just replace the glass. The driver side rear wing window is cracked but there. The rear window has a big hole in it. The passenger front wing window is missing but the frame is with the boxes of parts I have with it. The interior is what you might expect. The upholstery all needs to be redone; but, the springs feel pretty good so there is a good framework to start with. The dash has all of the controls and all of the knobs are there. It even has the radio. All of the door panels are there but are off the car because someone had started a restoration before I got it. The floor pans ARE SHOT!!! They have holes big enough to put your hand through so they are not "good". The same goes for the trunk. Please see the pictures. By the way, you can click on a picture on my website and blow it up to the original size for good detail! Finally, there are a lot of parts (I mean boxes) that either are new or came of the car. For instance, there is a new tailpipe and exhaust pipe. The exhaust pipe is new because the sticker can still be read so it has never gotten hot and the same is true for the tail pipe. There is a box of old valves and push-rods. I even have the Cormorant and grill for the car. I bought the grill because it did not have one when I bought it and the Cormorant came with it but had been removed for safety. For about 30 to 40 more picture go to http://www.grhouse.org/id10.html Another point, I've got it listed locally for sale and therefore reserve the right to cancel this auction if I sell it here locally. It is listed locally at $1000. FINALLY: I can deliver it to you within reason and for a fee of $1.00 per loaded mile up to about 500 miles and I'd have to deliver it on a weekend if it were very far away because I have responsibilities here.
