Vehicle Detail

2000 Honda Insight Hybrid JHMZE1374YT800042, 5sp manual 43,xxxkm, 3.9L/100km lifetime fuel mileage #42 off the assembly line In Service Jan 1, 2002 Goodwill Honda IMA Hybrid/Battery warranty for 10 years from in-service. New Battery Pack/IMA ($2,500) fall 2010 Complete service history from new Length: 3945mm (153.3”) Height: 1,355mm (53.3”) Width 1695mm (66.7”) Weight 838kg (1847lbs) Engine: 67hp 1.0L 3 cylnder Lean burn operation with a C.R. of up to 25.8:1 Lightweight aluminium, magnesium construction 67kg engine weight Automatic Stop/Start IMA electric Motor/Generator mounted between the engine and transmission, functioning as a flywheel, starter and vibration dampener. The world’s thinnest electric motor (2.5 in) providing 13hp and 36lb/ft of torque. 0/20 synthetic engine oil High pressure Regenerative braking Electric power steering Batteries: NiMH Dashboard gauges monitor battery status, instantaneous fuel consumption, trip fuel consumption, and lifetime fuel consumption, engine electric assist, and regenerative charging. The CVT equipped Insight from 2001-2006 is classified as a SULEV, the 5sp Manual version a ULEV-the 5-speed models lean-burn ability traded increased efficiency for slightly higer NOx emmissions. Global Sales: 17,020 units. The original Honda Insight is a truly amazing piece of machinery. Produced from 2000-2006, alongside the Acura NSX and S2000, it was designed almost without regard for development cost. The Insight was a challenge for the Honda engineers to design and build the worlds most fuel efficient production automobile-and they did-the Insight was the EPA’s highest ever rated car at 61 miles per US Gallon (3.9L/100km) highway and 4.4L combined. Many owners have been able to consistently better these figures. The Generation 1 Insight is the most efficient production car that has ever been made. It has super light weight aluminium body with the car weighing in at less than 1,900lbs. .25 drag coefficient and tiny frontal area, low rolling resistance tires, ultra clean and efficient 3 cyl gasoline engine, and the Honda Integrated Motor Assist Hybrid powertrain. The Generation 1 Insight is not only fun, light and extremely economical transportation, but a future collectible. This was the first Hybrid sold in North America and was designed as a test bed of future technologies. Becuase of the ‘extreme’ nature of the technology and packaging, and the fact that the development costs could never be amortized over the cars low production, a car like the aluminium body Insight will likely never be produced again. About this Honda Insight This Honda is the #42 Insight off of the production line. It was used as a display vehicle. It first was registered in Jan 1, 2002 in Edmonton where the first owner drove in the summer only for about 10,000km. It was then purchased by a Calgary car collector who specialized in Italian ‘Etceterini’s’ such as Abarth, Morretti, Siata etc.-the small lightweight car must have spoke to his minimalist esthetic... I have owned the car since 2005 and 11,000km, with a one year break where I sold it and bought it back with 13,500km. It has been stored indoors, driven only in the summer, and mostly on the highway. The lifetime fuel economy is 3.9L100km, and long highway trips see mileage in the low 3’s. City driving is usually between 4 and 5 L/100km. The car had the battery pack and IMA system replaced under warranty by Calgary Honda in Oct 2010, at 43,000km and hasn’t been driven since. The car is in excellent original condition and is surely one of the best, lowest mileage examples extant. There are some minor stone chips on the hood, and there are some scratches on the passenger side of the car that have been touched up. This Insight has been very well looked after, stored, and driven. It also represents the closest thing to ‘Free’ driving that you can get, with very minimal depreciation, spectacular fuel economy, and almost no servicing costs. It could be put away as a collector car, or driven and enjoyed. I have an enthusiast website with all of my cars listed on it. Go to www.vintageandsportscar.com in the Portfolio section to see a more detailed description of the car. I'm selling several cars in my modest collection to fund the restoration of a vintage Aston Martin.
