Vehicle Detail
AVAILABLE FOR SALE: ONE OF 61 U.S. MANUAL TRANSMISSION 635CSi Coupes from the final production year for the e24 BMW. This one has been finished in a Schwartz Black with Black leather, which is set off nicely by the OEM e60 BMW 550i 17" wheels (wearing nearly new Continental Tires). The car has always been treated with respect, and remains in very good condition, with many recent improvements. She wears a PA EMISSIONS AND SAFETY INSPECTION valid until 04/12. Inside, you’ll find all power options you would expect, power windows and locks, power sunroof, cruise control, and power seats. Even the most often missing items are here... the owner's manual set, tool kit, first aid kit, and glove box flashlight, are all included. A file of service records dating back approximately a decade will be included as well. The self-leveling rear suspension has been recently replaced with Bilstein Sport Shocks, and the rear "Dog Bones" were replaced at the same time, so essentially the two most often failed components on a late e24 coupe, are new. Based on the late build date, you'll find the updated motor that was only featured in the 1988-89 models, the shortened "worldwide" bumpers rather than the larger U.S. only bumpers, and the retractable rear shelf sunshade... all improvement over the earlier coupes. Perhaps most significantly, this represents 1 of only 61 U.S. 5-Speed cars built for the 1989 model year (and approximately 110 offered worldwide). This is a very nice car with some expected flaws from 2 decades of life. The car is 99%+ rust free, with the largest spot (photographed) being about the size of a golf ball, located just ahead of the left rear wheel. There are also small rust spots near the tail lights. Otherwise, a scuff here, ding there, and stone chip somewhere in between, but as you can tell from the pictures, the car presents very well. The leather interior (and there is leather almost EVERYWHERE) is in remarkable shape for the age of the car. Please supersize the pictures... it's quite impressive. Functionally... the car drives like a small plane flies ~ smooth and strong. I highly recommend a test drive, and the car will sell itself. Negatives... which I find to be more important than positives for an online auction: the A/C system is complete, but needs serviced, there is an oil leak (perhaps at the back of the valve cover?) that I can smell, but that hasn't required "topping off", and the ABS warning light self-clears (showing the system to be working), but returns when you move the car (indicating a dirty or defective wheel sensor), though the brakes otherwise function normally (well). Overall... a very nice car, and a ridiculously rare example. I would suggest having the rust obliterated in its infancy, repairing the three issues addressed above, and plan for a bright future. The car will be listed only once, and if she doesn't sell, I'll be keeping her and doing exactly that. Payment in full must be made within 7 days of the close of the auction, following a non-refundable $500 deposit through PayPal that must be received within 24 hours of the auction ending. Payment methods accepted for the balance will be cash, a verifiable cashier's check from a bank with local branches in central PA, or a bank wire transfer directly to my credit union (preferred). The title is clear, in hand, and in my name, so there will be no paperwork mysteries. If your plan is to come to Harrisburg to pick up the BMW, I can arrange to pick you up at the airport (MDT), bus, or train station. If you would be planning to ship the car, DAS has a Harrisburg terminal. I can drop the her off with them, or we can make our schedule fairly flexible to arrange to meet any other transport service of your choice at the house. The BMW can stay here after payment in full has been received for up to a month to accommodate YOUR schedule - garaged, and of course - not driven. The mileage on the 635CSi today shows 186,693, but I'll be adding a few miles to that for test drives if anyone local wishes to stop by... and for personal use. Anticipate an extra 250 miles or so. I'll be available between now and Saturday the 16th to show or sell the car, and out of town from the 17th-23rd. I WILL be able to access email through eBay throughout that time, so please don't hesitate to ask questions. There is also a current ad running locally on Craigslist. If a local sale takes place, this auction will be removed without delay. Once a bid has been made here, that ad will be removed, and the car will only be sold through this auction. PLEASE ASK any and all questions... your bid is a binding contract to purchase - not to consider. Thanks for looking, and take care. Rob. On Jul-11-11 at 20:08:14 PDT, seller added the following information: Wow... Thanks for the interest and questions. I just wanted to add a few things that came up in individual questions, for all to see. The 550i wheels did not require any sort of spacer or hub-centric ring. They are the original offset (20) and the correct hub bore with no fitment issue at all. There are no rips or tears in the seating surfaces. the worst flaw to the leather is to the driver's side door panel armrest, where the seat back release rubs the door. The arm rest is removable, and it would be cheap and easy to repair, but the rub would just recur over time unless you modified the original seat back release. The elipsoid headlights are original to the car, they were the standard headlight for the e24 cars in 1988-89. The BMWCCA grille badge WILL go with the car, as anyone that buys the car should be joining if they're not already a member, as will the German registration plate, if the new owner wants it. The remote pictured in the last picture is for a factory keyless entry system. I changed the battery, and the light works, but the system doesn't seem to. Lastly, the stereo in the car is original, and the original CD changer is present and complete... a fairly rare option. The volume knob is scratchy on the head unit, and I've never put a CD in the changer, but I know that it does power up. Thanks again, and Best Regards ~ Rob.
