**I will NOT accept overseas bidders or people with ZERO Ebay feedback history. I have been down that road more than once, wasting time and losing money, and I will not do it again. If you are one of these people, I WILL cancel your bid. I reserve the right to refuse any bid. By bidding on this item you indicate that you agree to the terms and conditions below. Thanks for your understanding.** You will have difficulty finding an original Cutlass Calais with lower miles or in better condition than this one. This car has just under 21,000 original miles, fully verifiable with AutoCheck or Carfax. The clear Ohio title also has the miles branded as "actual." HISTORY: Not only is this car in peerless condition, you won't find another Cutlass with this one's interesting history. You might remember that Oldsmobile was a major sponsor of PGA golf tournaments in the 1980s - in fact, they often used golf stars like Fuzzy Zoeller in their advertisements. This car was built in early September 1983 specifically as an Olds promotional vehicle for the Las Vegas Pro Celebrity Classic golf tournament, which took place September 14-18 (Fuzzy won the tournament). It was likely used as a courtesy car for the golfers and officials, and/or as a display car at the Oldsmobile tent. Once the tournament ended, the car went back into the Oldsmobile dealer allocation system. It ended up going to a dealer in North Carolina. The car is fully verifiable as a Las Vegas Pro Celebrity Classic vehicle - see the photo of the RPO codes sticker, which actually has the tournament name spelled out! MODEL AND EQUIPMENT: From 1978-1984, the Calais was the sporty trim level of the popular Cutlass Supreme, and came standard with reclining bucket seats, console, sport steering wheel, handling suspension with rear sway bar, faster-ratio steering, blacked out headlight trim, and full instrumentation with tach (same as the Hurst/Olds and later 442 models). This car is also optioned with T-tops, color-keyed Olds Rallye wheels, contrasting vinyl top, the Olds 307 4-bbl V-8, plus a host of other comfort and convenience options. In fact, just about the only options that the car does NOT have are power antenna, remote trunk release, fiber-optic light monitors, limited slip differential, and a cassette player. It has the ETR AM/FM stereo radio with digital clock. MECHANICAL: This car runs, rides and drives like a new 1984 Oldsmobile. It idles so quietly and smoothly you can't even tell it's running from inside the car. The transmission shifts as smooth as butter. It starts right up, and the choke and fast idle work properly. There's no need to let the car warm up before you can drive it, like some older carburated cars - just get in, start it up, and drive away like a new car. During my ownership I have replaced the tires (the originals were dry-rotted and unsafe), the shocks (with new Bilsteins), the battery, the spark plugs, and all the underhood coolant hoses and belts for safety's sake. All the fluids and filters are fresh and clean. With such low miles, the car has needed no other maintenance. The engine compartment is clean, and from what I can tell it always has been. The car does not burn any oil. Even the exhaust is original, and in great shape! The handling suspension and faster-ratio steering of the Calais gives the car a much more modern driving feel than an ordinary Cutlass, but it still rides well like a body-on-frame Olds should. The alignment is spot-on. The car consistently averages 19-20 MPG in normal driving. EXTERIOR: Looks like new, always garaged. There isn't even a door ding on this car. The original paint gleams everywhere, the chrome is perfect even on the bumpers, and the original painted-on pinstripe is in perfect condition. AutoCheck and Carfax will verify that the car has never been in an accident. The vinyl top is supple and beautiful - I have not Armor-Alled it. The car was undercoated by "Rusty Jones" when new, and there isn't a speck of rust on it. No stone chips. The doors have no sag whatsoever and close easily with just finger pressure, like they are supposed to. The T-tops do not leak. This car shows extremely well and exudes 1980s class from every angle - you'll get constant thumbs-up on the road. INTERIOR: Showroom condition - see the pictures! STILL SMELLS NEW. Not "new" like an air freshener, but like a new 1984 GM car. No fading or wear on the upholstery or carpet at all. Still has its carpeted GM floor mats. The headliner is still tight and intact. There are no cracks in the steering wheel. The dashboard is amazing, still soft and supple with no cracks. Even the tiny, delicate plastichrome accents in the dash and console woodgrain and around the vents are in perfect condition - try finding another 1978-88 Cutlass like that. The trunk is like new also. The spare has never been used, and the vinyl bags for the T-tops are still present. FEATURES: Every single knob, button, switch, gauge, and bulb on this car works just like it did when it was new. The cruise control works perfectly and there is no wear on the switch - the white printing is still intact, which as you GM guys know is indicative of a low-mile car. The air conditioning is still R-12 (the good stuff) and blows cold. It needs a can of freon about every two years (it's charged and working great right now). The power windows are fast, and the power locks make a crisp "snap" just like a new car. The doors and windows seal tightly, and there are no squeaks or rattles - amazing. EXTRAS: The car comes with its original owner's manual, dealership pre-delivery inspection sheet, seat belt instruction card, warranty booklet, EPA fuel economy chart, Goodyear tire warranty booklet, maintenance schedule booklet, sound system and electronics owner's manual, and the Oldsmobile service and maintenance owners manual supplement. I will also throw in a 1984 Oldsmobile full-line sales brochure. The keys are original GM keys. However, I do not have the original window sticker. There's really not much else to say - this car is reliable enough to be driven cross-country or used as a daily driver if you wanted to do that, although I hope the buyer continues to keep the car preserved and enjoy it only occasionally and in fair weather, as I have. It's ready to drive, show, and win Survivor Class awards as it sits. With some additional undercarriage detailing it would probably be competitive in Concours competition. While I won't reveal my reserve, I'll tell you that I've set it lower than a Hurst/Olds or 442 of the same mileage and condition, but considerably more than the average worn-out hooptie Cutlass with 3-4 times the mileage so commonly seen on Ebay. Being a fully loaded V-8 Calais with T-tops, like new, and with a unique PGA golf pedigree, this is far from being an "average" Cutlass. This one is for the collector who wants the best original example available. This is an auction, and in the interest of being fair to everyone I will NOT be ending it early, so don't ask. You are welcome to come look at the car before bidding if you are local. In light of this, the car may have a few more miles by auction's end. Bid what you are willing to pay! If you would like additional pictures of anything, just let me know. The best way to contact me is through the eBay system. I have sold quite a few cars on Ebay over the years, and with the exception of one pillock from The Netherlands who hit "Buy it Now" then tried unsuccessfully to get me to change my payment terms, everyone has been extremely satisfied. Check my feedback and bid with confidence. TERMS AND CONDITIONS: You are bidding to own this car, not for the right to mull over whether you really can afford it or not, so make sure you have the money and the permission of your wife, husband, girlfriend, banker, boss, dog, and/or parole officer before placing a bid. A $500 PayPal deposit due within 48 hours of auction close, unless the full amount is paid by then. Car must be fully paid for and picked up within 14 days of sale. PayPal is for the deposit ONLY - the balance must be paid by cash or a cashier's check from a recognizable bank. NO EXCEPTIONS. NO WIRE TRANSFERS. Buyer is responsible for shipping, taxes, and registration. If you want to fly in and drive the car home, I will be happy to pick you up at the Columbus, Ohio airport (CMH). This car is in excellent condition, but it is 27 years old and must be sold as-is with no warranty. I am not a mechanic but I have described the car to the best of my ability. Good Luck!!!On Jul-07-11 at 10:45:19 PDT, seller added the following information: The reserve has now been met, and the car will sell to the highest bidder! Good luck to all!
