Vehicle Detail

This is an extremely well preserved example of a 1966 Porsche 912. In 1966 this car was more popular than the 911 and for good reason. The 90 HP Porsche motor was much lighter than the 6 cylinder 911 motor and didn't hang out over the rear axle, so performance was strong without sacrificing handling. I am the 4th owner of this car, and have interviewed the second and third owner to get a history of the car back to 1974, along with some anecdotes about the original owner and work that was known to have been done. Condition: The interior has been pretty much completely restored. The interior was stripped down to bare metal and had all surface rust removed. There was no structural rust in the interior or trunk, undercoating did not need to be done and so was left original. POR-15 was applied, along with Damplifier sound proofing products throughout. The replacement carpet is authentic German squareweave from Heritage Trim. The trunk carpet remains original, and matches well. The ebonite steering wheel is in nearly perfect condition, which is rare for these cars. All interior trim is in great shape, the dash has no cracks or warps. Interior vinyl is untorn, seats are in excellent condition, with original vinyl with no tears or cracks. I have plenty of photos showing the interior restor Mechanically this Porsche is also very strong. The motor has about 10K miles on a top-end rebuild, which included new-in-box Solex carbs. The carbs still have the original gold coating, which is very rare as it is easy to rub off. The engine compartment is clean enough to eat off of, as you can see in the photos. The transmission was recently rebuilt and has a new clutch, along with all of the bushings up to the shifter. The 5-speed transmission shifts like butter, and the motor pulls strongly in all gears. Cosmetic condition is pretty good, with some small imperfections. Car was painted in 1974 and the paint shows some patina, mainly rock chips up front and one or two small dings. It's in great shape for car shows, but would want some freshening for a concours. All of the trim is installed and the chrome is in very good condition. Hood badge is original, and the Porsche wooden shift knob is a dealer option. Wheels are the original 15 X 4.5" steelies with chrome hubcaps. Standard Disclaimers: Car is listed locally, but I will remove local listing if this auction gets to the reserve price. Please bid with confidence. I have plenty of photos and information on the maintence and restoration history, please let me know if you have any questions. Car is sold as-is, where-is without warranties - inspections are encouraged, or I am happy to e-mail photos or scans of receipts. On Jul-04-11 at 10:16:28 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: Because I have hit the limit on my photo gallery, I have added some additional pictures below. Picture quality isn't perfect on all of them, but I'm trying to move fast to answer everyone's questions. If you'd like additional specific photos please let me know. Shown below are photos of the battery box and undercarriage, the headliner, the last compression test and service results (1500 miles ago) and some pictures of the chips in the paint. Paint has a few stress lines in the hood under the badge which are tough to see, but very few chips up front. Side panels have a few chips due to the removal of an old "Porsche" decal. The worst ding is in the second photo at the top by the shadow - looks like something hit the rear license plate panel and left a ding about 1/2 inch big - no idea what. Most other chips you have to look for. On Jul-04-11 at 10:29:35 PDT, seller added the following information: Aaaand...some pictures of the interior restoration, showing the rust-proofing (POR-15 over bare metal) and sound-proofing (Damplifier Pro and Luxury Liner products).
