Vehicle Detail

You are viewing a beautiful, numbers matching, rust free, guards red 1973 Porsche 911T Targa. This car has undergone extensive service and care to maintain it's excellent driver quality condition. I purchased it in very good condition from the second owner a couple years ago, and (as I always seem to do), promptly did everything needed to meet my standards. I planned to keep it as my occasional sunny day driver targa, but a 1971 911 coupe that has been the object of my affection for a long time finally became available, and now I have more cars than space. Anyway, more about the 73T: The car retains the original engine and mechanical fuel injection (MFI), and received a "soft" restoration about 18 years ago (1993) at the hands of the second owner. At this time, he chose to replace the original front bumper and fenders to lightweight high performance fiberglass pieces, modeled after the (same year) benchmark 1973 911 Carrera RS. At this time the car was changed from it's original silver to the quintessential Porsche guards red (I'm sure my opinion on red is clear from the photos :). The discriminating eye will detect a little overspray in discrete areas. The engine was also rebuilt during this same time, and updated "carrera" type chain tensioners were added. Finally, with subtly enhanced performance in mind, the previous owner added a light aftermarket performance exhaust system. He then simply maintained and enjoyed the car on weekends and nice days. He stated that the odometer stopped working (common) approximately 3 years ago at 11,364 - which is what it still reads today (111,364 on a five digit odo). Upon my purchase, I had a full service completed, including all new plugs, wires, points, etc. We also installed all new brakes all the way around (documented). At this point we decided to respray a few of the body panels that had faded over time. By the time we were finished, approximately 60% of the car had been repainted, and is fresh and new. The paint shines magnificently. The targa top was also reconditioned at this time as well and is a nice rich black and looks very good. The car runs (& stops!) well. It does leak a small amount of oil (looks like right side valve cover area), but nothing excessive, and don't they all. You get a small puff of smoke at start up after sitting for a long period of time, but it does not smoke at all when running/driving. The car runs great! This is not a concourse show car, but a very, very nice driver quality 911T. I like this example (& would keep it if I could!) because it is nice and reliable enough to enjoy regularly and with pride, but not so nice that you're afraid to take it out and use as intended. Early 911s like this are very rapidly appreciating, and will soon be out of reach for the casual enthusiast. Porsche expert Bruce Anderson gives a great summary of the early 911 and it's evolution, along with current market values here: http://www.excellence-mag.com/resources/buyers-guide/772593903. Low to high price guidance is $19,400 - $26,000 on the '73 911T Targa. My asking price is very fairly set well below the low estimate. I encourage all potential buyers to come inspect the car in person prior to buying or bidding. Feel free to call me with any questions or for more information. Car condition is subjective. I have owned over 50 Porsches, and am picky about my cars, but potential owners should decide for themselves if this car is for them. Car is sold AS IS, WHERE IS. I can help with very reasonable shipping arrangements, but transportation is ultimately the responsibility of the buyer. Zero or negative feedback bidders please contact me prior to bidding or your bid may be cancelled. International bidders need to have U.S. funds as well as transportation arrangements in place BEFORE bidding. Please only bid or offer if you are serious. Finally, feel free to email or call me at 574-361-5315 with any questions, more details, or if you'd like to make an offer. Good luck!
