1949 Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe Email: lord_zar@hotmail.com , Phone: 931-624-0651 For your consideration is a two door, 1949 Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe. This Styleline was built on June 16th 1949, in Saint Louis, Missouri. The car was sold at a dealer in Illinois. The car was still in Illinois when I got it on 4/18/2009. The car is currently located in Clarksville, Tennessee. This car is from a simpler time when driving meant being a part of the driving experience and not apart from the experience. While this car has power steering and power brakes there are not any other cushy luxuries. There is NOT air conditioning, power door locks, power windows, cruise control, GPS navigation, DVD player, cup holders, vanity mirrors or a mega-watt sound system. You will feel the road in the steering wheel. You will hear the wind through open windows. You will hear the engine’s roar. And if you are a real car person then you will love it all. Also I hope you like attention because everywhere you stop, people will gather and ask questions. For many people it brings back memories. Children seem to be instantly drawn to this car. People want to see who is driving this car. The car inspires memories of past decades and has a nostalgic presence. Visit 49-54Chevy Details In 1949, Chevrolet presented its first all new models since the end of World War II. The car had a lower, sleeker profile, with the lines of the front fenders smoothly blending into the doors to be countered by the rear fenders that continued to bulge out of the sides of the car. A two-piece curved windshield improved vision and added to the overall sleek look. I take this car to a Car Show or Cruise-In every weekend and rarely see this year and model. While original production was good, from my experience, not many have survived. I say that the car is a work in progress and would not consider it a Rat Rod but many people do. The car gets called that because of the rust color, primer paint. Spray on some flat black primer, with red colored trim accent parts and some pin stripping and the car would fit in with any Rat Rod group. Also you could make the car a trailer queen, show car. My plans for the car was to make it a Restro-Mod. That means a vintage vehicle that takes advantage of modern components during restoration to improve performance, safety and comfort. Modifications to the exterior should be minor or not so drastic that the car no longer looks like it belongs to it’s decade of manufacture. If it is a 1950’s car then it should still look like one, I say. I wanted it to look like a mild custom from the 1950s. I didn’t want to make anything on the car so nice that I would not want to drive it. Body modifications include the removal of the front and rear bumpers. To replace the bumpers there is an air dam and smoothed lower front fenders, on the front and a smoothed lower rear fenders and rear pan on the back. The two piece hood seam has been smoothed out. Almost all of the body trim and emblems have been removed and the holes filled. The license plate lights have been replaced by custom lights. Body accessories are a 1949 Pontiac windshield visor, wing window visors and round door peep mirrors. This car is my daily driver. I drive this car every weekday to work. It is a total of 40 miles each day. Then on the weekends I go to a Car Show or Cruise-In. She has always gotten me home. Still I suggest that if you are located a long distance from my location that you trailer the car. I know this car inside and out and if something goes a little off then I know exactly where to look for the solution. A new owner would not know these things. I would not want you to get stuck somewhere for a long time because, just for instance, you didn’t know which fuse had blown or where it was located. I have a clear Tennessee title in my name. The reserve is the amount of money in parts that I have in this car. You get my labor for free. For my Gearhead brothers and sisters, please look below for all of the details about this car. Modifications and Details: 1969 Camaro Front Frame welded onto the stock frame. This gives the car a newer front suspension including power steering and front disc brakes. The brake booster, master cylinder, brake pedal and steering column are also 1969 Camaro. The booster, master cylinder, passenger side caliper, front wheel bearings with races, brake pads and power steering pressure hose are all new within the last year. The frontend has a lifetime alignment at the Firestone Service Centers and has been done twice in the last year to ensure proper alignment. 305 C.I. Engine. It was a junkyard pull from a 1978 El Camino, so I was told. This engine was in the car when I got it. I runs well but does have some oil smoke at startup. There are some oil leaks. The distributor rotor, distributor cap, spark plugs, plug wires, fuel pump, water pump, starter and chrome alternator are all new within the last year. It has an Edelbrock Performer aluminum intake manifold and Edelbrock 650 cfm, manual choke, carburetor. The engine is topped with an Edelbrock air cleaner and vintage Mickey Thompson valve covers. Dual Exhaust. The engine has a set of long tube headers with new 2 ¾ inch dual exhaust pipes and Turbo mufflers. One header pipe on the driver side is cracked. The pipes go over the axle and are finished with chrome turn-down tips. TH350 Transmission. I was told when I got the car, that it was a rebuilt unit with a shift kit. The rear tailshaft seal leaks some. It will shift down at any speed and will not shift up on it’s own when manually shifting. It shifts normal when in Drive. The shifts may be a little firmer than normal but not harsh. Shifting is done with a floor mounted B&M Z-Gate Shifter. Rear Axle is an open Chevy 10 bolt with the larger 8.5 Ring Gear. The front pinion seal leaks some. I have drained and replaced the gear oil. I was told that it is a 1970 Nova unit. It is connected with leaf springs, 3 inch lowering blocks and coil over shocks. Aluminum Radiator with a switch controlled, 16 inch electric push fan. The temperature will slowly rise on hot days when the car is not moving. I feel that a larger radiator would be needed for heavy traffic areas or if Air Conditioning was to be added. Vacuum canister for the stock vacuum windshield wipers. The stock wipers work well. Custom Heater setup. The heater, stock fan and defroster work. 12 Volt Electrical System. The car has been converted from 6 Volt to 12 Volt. All light bulbs have been replaced with 12 volt bulbs. The battery is trunk mounted. The headlights have been converted to H4 halogen bulbs and special flat glass lens. Turn Signals. The front grill parking lights have been converted to turn signals. There are custom, glass, rear tail/turn lights in the position of the old license plate lights. Rear Lights. Blue Dot, Stock, Glass, Taillights and a third (Or in this case a fifth.) LED brake light on the license plate frame. Interior: The interior color is black. The rear seat is stock. Front seats are reclining bucket seats that are gray with black covers. A deluxe traffic light viewer is located on the front windshield trim. There are new Sun Pro gauges for Tachometer, Fuel, Water Temperature, Oil Pressure, and Volts. A new fuel tank sending unit is installed in the stock tank. The stock speedometer stopped working recently. The upholstery is home done by the prior owner and while useable, it could be done better. The door panels are black vinyl. The headliner material is glued to the roof. The stock headliner bows are gone. The rear window glass is newer, while the rest of the window glass appears to be stock. The driver door window is cracked and all the other glass has some bubbles. The stock windup dash clock works. The steering wheel is a new chrome, 3 spoke, Grant wheel. Exterior: Body accessories include a 1949 Pontiac Windshield Visor, wing window visors and round peep mirrors. The front bumper is removed and an air dam replaces it. The air dam is cracked in several places. The rear bumper is removed and the quarter panels and rear pan have been smoothed out to cover the area. All trim except that around the windows and the body and upper cab has been removed. The paint is rust colored primer. The roof and top of the hood have some surface rust where the primer has gotten thin. All the body work is done in fiberglass and bondo by the prior owner. Wheels and Tires: Wheels are 15 inch, Cragar Smoothies. 6 inch width on the front and 8 inch width on the rear. The front tires are new BF Goodrich Touring T/A 195/60 R15. The rear tires are Dayton 215/70 R15. One front wheel is new. I recently had a tire blow-out and bent the old wheel, so replaced it and got new front tires.
