Vehicle Detail

1985 Mercedes 300D One family owned from new until January of this year when I purchased it from one of the sons. I know the complete history of this car and have every receipt for every service performed from new in plastic sleeves in a three-ring binder. The car was purchased new through a military base directly from Mercedes-Benz by the first son who was an Army Major. It was shipped directly to Houston where it was then leased to his parents. The mother drove the car from 1985 to 2008 in Houston until she was no longer able to drive. The second son brought the car to Dallas and I purchased it from him this year. I have full documentation for all of this including the original letters from Mercedes-Benz, the bill of lading to Houston and the lease to the father. I have full supporting evidence of this being a U.S. specification car. The car has always been very well maintained. I spoke to the shop that serviced the car from 1989 to 2008 and the German owner told me that whatever the car needed was always done. As proof of this I have posted the complete service history below that backs this up. As further evidence, since 2009 the car has had a little over $8000 in service performed including the recent (May 11') timing chain and right rear half-shaft replacement. I do not currently daily drive this car however I have taken it on one trip to Austin, Texas and have driven it back and forth to work about once a week to just to drive it. The car runs very well, the transmission shifts smoothly and egages timely. It has been HOT in Texas this week and the R12 A/C cools wonderfully. Good Complete no surprises service history Very Clean interior Fully charged and correct functioning A/C. Air blows through the correct vents, climate control works correctly, blower motor is prompt and buttons engage correctly. Heater works correctly. Defrost blows through the correct vents. Transmission works perfectly. Engages timely (within one second) into gear, no slipping. Matching set of nearly new low miles Michelin Destiny tires with very good tread remaining. Sunroof works correctly. Smooth sliding, no hanging up. Nearly new Alpine CD player with iPod interface and upgraded front speakers. Sound is clear and stereo works properly. Antenna works correctly. Goes up and down smoothly and should since it is nearly new. New hood pad Seats are supportive and comfortable. No sagging and soft springs like most of these cars, they are as they were meant to be from Mercedes Cruise control works great. Engages and disengages correctly. All interior and exterior lights work correctly Wheels have been refinished New correct Bosch wiper blades No oil leaks! Bad The paint is faded on the roof, hood and trunk. The son whom I purchased it from continued to maintain the car very well but had no place to store it so it stayed outside and faded the paint. The sides are in good shape. The odometer stopped working shortly after I purchased the car this year. However because of the service history on this car my conservative estimate is no more than 185K. As I stated earlier I only drive the car about once a week and I have taken one trip from the Dallas/Fort Worth area to Austin. I live about 4 miles from my office. Parking lot dings I have been over this car very closely and discovered three places of light rust. One was under the battery tray. I removed the battery tray, cleaned and prepped the area with a paint similiar to POR 15 and made sure the drains were clean, then cleaned and prepped the battery tray with the same paint. The hood just above the battery also had light surface rust which I again cleaned and prepped with paint. In one of the pics you can see the black paint on the hood. The third place is along the trunk seam. It has NOT rusted through in this area and is about the size of the end of your pinky finger. It needs a new trunk seal and then that area should be cleaned and prepped like the other two areas I mentioned. I believe in full-disclosure and I have nothing to hide with this car. One vent is missing the trim ring The dash is cracked from sitting in the sun The left rear window will not roll down. No doubt the regulator is broken because I can hear the motor working. The window is in the up position. The regulators while tedious to repair are not difficult and parts are easily obtained. Front Left Wheel Front Right Wheel Right Rear Wheel Left Rear Wheel Page one of service history Page two of service history Page three of service history Page four of service history Page five of service history Page six of service history Page seven of service history Page eight of service history Page nine of service history Page ten of service history Page eleven of service history Page twelve of service history The bottom line I have truly enjoyed working on this car and learning its history and how it works. I have done many small things not listed in the service history including replacing the hood pad, replacing all fuses, cleaning the fuse box, lubricating the sunroof rails, detailing the engine, replacing the oil pan gasket, installing a new air filter, and changing the oil. The idea that these Mercedes diesel engines will last and last is only true if the maintenance has been kept up with. I know there are other cars on Ebay that have better paint but how many have the complete history this one has? More importantly how many will have deferred maintenance that will have to be recitified? Purchase this car with complete confidence in a smooth running, well-maintained example of one of the best cars Mercedes-Benz ever made. Decatur, Texas is just 45 minutes west of DFW International airport. If ever there was a car you could fly in an drive home this is it. I would be happy to arrange to pick-up the buyer from the airport. If you are local and would like to see the car in person please contact me through E-Bay and I will meet you somewhere in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. If you are somewhere outside the DFW area (I'm thinking of you Houston, San Antonio, Austin) contact me. I love a good road trip.On Jun-17-11 at 08:28:14 PDT, seller added the following information: Achtung! It has come to my attention that some items on the AutoCheck report are either incorrect or just plain scary sounding. The car has NO lien on it. The Texas title is free and clear in my name. The car has never been in a flood or accident The report for my car shows several owners. The car was titled in the first son's name and was immediately leased to his parents. The title wasn't transferred into the fathers name until many years later. The second son titled it in his name and I purchased it from him. As I have stated in the description above I can easily verify all of this with the paperwork I have on the car. The odometer is easily repaired. I have already purchased the correct Mercedes-Benz tools to remove the dash cluster. I will include those tools in the sale. I received a quote from a shop in Fort Worth, Texas for $188 to repair the odometer if I removed it myself. I am selling this car to fund a track car to race at Eagles Canyon Raceway just north of Decatur. Check it out www.eaglescanyon.com. Original letter from Mercedes-Benz confirming shipping information to Houston, Texas Bill of Lading showing VIN Original documents including radio card, HVAC card, owner's manual and stamped service book Small sample of service receipts in three-ring binder The response to this car has been huge so far with many questions and watchers. I love to answer questions about this car. If you would like to speak with me please contact me through EBay and request my cell phone. I also have the EBay app on my iPhone and will answer promptly.
