Vehicle Detail
This is a chance of a lifetime if you’re looking for a 66-67 Cutlass race car. This 5 year 30,000 dollar project was put together by several members of the New England Oldsmobile club (http://neolds.com/) the Goal was to build a retro style drag car that could run under 11 seconds. The originally Target Red/Provincial White solid 1966 Olds Cutlass body was procured from a southern state to avoid rust issues and provide a solid platform for the project. The body was removed from the frame and all suspension and front end and brake components were replaced. No expense was spared, particularly when it came to safety. On top of all the new brakes and suspension the body was professionally equipped and modified with all of the go fast goodies required to run in the 10’s. Check out what these Olds nuts put together to go real fast quickly. The heart of the Smoke-n-Mirrors was the key to the success of the project. The club president was technically the owner and chief financer and he had a vision of a reliable turnkey car that could run in the tens without straining. A surprisingly smooth yet high revving 1970 Olds 455 Rocket engine was Custom built by Cas-Am Performance of Meriden, CT. The Block was bored & honed, 040 over with BHJ torque plates, and was also align honed. The bottom end was equipped with Mondello molly straps & studs for the main caps. TRW forged 2323 pistons were used with the a total seal ring package and Stock 455 rods which were shot peened, side beams polished & reconditioned with new ARP rod bolts. Stock Nodular crank shot peened & turned 10/10. Fully balanced & blueprinted reciprocating assembly. Cloyes double row timing chain. Fully degreed Engle 25-28 hydraulic cam with custom 3/8 pushrods and Old Performance Products custom valve covers with Moroso pan evacuation system hide the Harlan Sharp full roller rockers. Fully ported C heads with heat crossovers filled, exhaust divider welded, new undercut stainless valves, springs, retainers and locks. A high rise Edlebrock Victor intake topped by a HP 950 Holley delivers the fuel with the help of complete stainless braided hose -08 fuel system. The mixture is fired off by a MSD Pro billed dist and MSD 6AL box. Keeping it cool is a Be Cool aluminum radiator and CCI electric water pump while on the bottom you'll find a Milodon complete 8 qt oiling system. Lastly this monster exhausts out Custom Kooks 1 ¾” coated headers, custom X pipe and high flow 3 inch mufflers with turn downs. Additional race modifications and equipment: $3600 of custom race modifications installed by Miller Racing (Wallingford, CT http://www.millerracecars.net/). Jamie Miller’s team installed a custom built 10 point full molly roll cage as well as dual front custom molly seat mounts. The driver’s seat was equipped with a G Force 5 point harness as well as mounts for a window net. Out back they fabricated fuel cell/pump mounts in the trunk. The rear axle was fitted with Jamie’s custom designed sway bar system, check out the pics below. Their work is second to none! A summit 10 gallon aluminum fuel cell, Mallory electric fuel pump and Fram spin off fuel filter were mounted on custom mount. An Optima battery is mounted on the trunk floor and is controlled by a safety switch mounted on the lexan tail lamp. The suspension was modified with the Dick Miller Racing (Hernando, MS http://www.dickmillerracing.com/) you have read about in numerous car magazine articles for years. The kit includes Moroso race springs and QA 1 adjustable shocks front and rear, molly lower rear arms and adjustable QA1 upper control arms. Jamie Miller’s team scaled and set the preload to proper race specs to achieve that perfect launch stance you see in the pictures. No energy is wasted getting this rocket out of the hole and down the track. Yes, those front wheels are not touching the ground and the chassis is composed and not bending and flexing in every direction. It takes a lot more than horsepower to break into the 10’s! Speaking of rears, Gevo’s Rear and Gears http://www.rearsgears.com/home.html customized the 4:11 12 bolt Chevy rear with spool, Moser 33 spline axles and c-clip eliminators. This rear has been bullet proof. The BOP pattern Turbo 350 transmission was sent to the best performance transmission guy we know here in Connecticut (thanks Lloyd) The valve body was modified with a Trans Go shift kit requiring manual gear shifts. Shifting is handled by a B&M unit assuring perfect shifting behind a Continental custom 9” 4000 stall speed torque converter. You can warm the slicks in the waterbox with the B&M line lock system. The car was lightened to less than 3000 pounds by striping the Interior and installing VFN fiberglass trunk, hood, and Bumpers. Anything slowing the car down was removed. A flat black paint job and various stickers were added but can easily be removed. For an additional cost I can strip her down and paint the car, perhaps in the original red, if the winning bidder is interested. The car is not exactly street ready but can be registered in many states if you put the lights and a few other stock parts back on. If this is your intention understand it’s entirely your responsibility to check laws in your state, the car is sold as is. We would consider offers for the Body and all its components, or for the engine and trans alone but we are not going to piece part the car out. We have a box of receipts totaling approx 25,000 dollars and that’s not counting the investment in the car itself or everyone’s labor, With even a low hourly rate for all the extra labor and effort from the club President and members it would have cost 45-50,000 dollars to get this project done, but you can have it at a fraction of the investment and its ready to roll and capable of running in the 10's as is. The best run to date was a 10.89 ET at 121.9 mph with a 1.43 60 foot at Lebanon Valley Dragway in New York state. If you hit the buy it now we will include a full set of Hoosiers and a pair of ultra light front wheels valued at over 1000 dollars just as an incentive. Slicks are Hoosier 30x9x15 and front runners are 15x4. The pictures tell the rest of the story but if you have questions Please call me at 203-631-0184, thank you and happy bidding, John CT is a non title state on older cars, a CT state bill of sale will be provided with the car, if your planning on making this a street strip car and your state requires a transferable registration we will work with buyer to get ct registration or other documents required to transfer ownership but to be clear the car is currently a race car and would need some work to reurn it to street legal operation. Again please feel free to call with questions 203-631-0184
