Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is this EXTREMELY RARE ELECTRIC 1960 Renault Dauphine, now re-named the Henney Kilowatt. Back in 1959/60 the Eureka company purchased 100 of these cars from Renault in France WITHOUT gas engines. Once here in the States they were converted to electric by the Eureka company. There were two versions of this. The 1959 Kilowatt was of a lesser voltage and was slower and had a less limited range. The 1960 Kilowatt was more powerful and had a range of 50 miles. Go to your browser and google Henney Kilowatt. There is much info on the car. I was told by the original owner this was the 1960 version. I believe it needed 15 6 volt golf cart type batteries for a total of 90 volts. There is one of the batteries in the trunk. Anyway, I have had this Renault for at least 20 years with the hope of making her go again. It has been inside of my garage all this time. Now just moved outside on the driveway because I needed the room. With research I have found out there is only four or maybe five of these left in existence. There is no title with this car. Here in New York titles started in 1973 and according to ebay you need a title for anything over 1981. This should not be a problem in any state since the car never had a title to start with. About the car itself, This Renault has 1,926 ORIGINAL MILES!!! there is NO bad rust on this car. In fact whatever you see is a light surface rust, even underneath. NO rust holes anywhere!! The floor is very solid with no holes. You will see some spider webs underneath also left over from the garage. The interior is pretty clean also. The head liner is almost new looking as the steering wheel. I think I have the inside light housings also. I have two NEW front signal light lenses in the box. I also have 2 NEW rear light lenses also, need to find where I hid those though.. There are some metal panels and some more electronics which I forgot to photograph. I was going to fix the front left fender or get one off ebay. I would just get a fender that are available for like $50 dollars here on ebay or craigslist, rather than to fix the fender. A shame I never had the extra money for this baby. The trunk (rear) has a few creases in it from the previous owner. Again, this part is also available via ebay and or craigslist. You can search ALL of craigslist by putting this into your browser. http://www.allofcraigs.com/ The windshield needs to be replaced also. Some idiot broke it just before I picked up the car from the previous owner. In fact a few months ago I just missed an auction on ebay for a used windshield and it went for something like $42 dollars. I was annoyed because I forgot about it!!!. All in all this car is in very good shape for a 51 year old car!! Most of the Dauphine's are rust buckets and not worth a damn. Anyway, there she is!! Oh, notice the never used original moldings behind the rear window shelf! They are new and still have the original Renault yellow coating on them. And I have 6 great hubcaps too! Also comes with TWO chargers, only one is in the picture. This is a blast of the past!! I was also knocking around putting the gas engine back in her but decided against it. Please see all the pictures and feel free to ask questions. This car is sold as is, without any warrantee or returns. This is a true rare piece of history!!!! This Renault can be shipped anywhere but I have never shipped a car before and could use some help with this. Thanks for reading. On May-27-11 at 08:12:33 PDT, seller added the following information: I want to thank a watcher for bringing the back seat this to my attention. It seems when these cars were ordered from France without gas engines they also did not have the back seat!!! Just factory carpet where the seat would have gone. HOWEVER, seems there are mounting points for a back seat. If one wanted to install one from say another ebay seller who is parting out their Dauphine, well this should work out well. I will put the pictures of it on the auction but you will have to scroll way down to view them. Thanks again!!
