Vehicle Detail

1966 Chevrolet Corvair Monza convertible - white/black interior; eng. 6 cyl 110 hp; automatic trans; odometer reading 57,675. I am listing this car for my father. The following description is his as written by him. It is time for me to part with my summer fun car. My wife and I have spent the last four summers (August and September) in the Kennebunkport area of Maine. Being a car guy at heart, I wanted to have a nice older car to fair weather cruise while we were on our extended stay. I purchased this Monza from a man who lives in nearby New Hampshire in 2007. He had been willed the car from a man he had befriended and had cared for. The car had been stored for several years as I was told. The previous owner had driven the car very little and only during the summer months. I cannot verify the correctness of the mileage. When I purchased the Monza it was in very nice shape needing only a new top and some detailing. It was originally a yellow car, having been repainted its present white sometime earlier. I had a new top (which is manual), pads, and well liner (purchased from Clark’s Corvairs) installed right away that first year. At the beginning of my second year (2008), I had the carbs rebuilt and I installed new carpet (Clark’s). Since that time I have only had appropriate oil changes, new battery (2009) and lots of fun. The interior is very nice with no cracks in the steering wheel or the dash pad. I repainted the two dash pods dull aluminum (like the 1965’s) to break up the total blackness. The radio and all electrics are in proper working order. The paint as well as all the trim is very nice driver quality (I did have the car in some local shows and cruise-ins). There are very small (minor) rust spots at the base of both front fenders just above the rocker seams. These spots were present when I purchased the car and they haven't changed since, hence, I have seen no need to fix them. The rockers, rear quarters, all floors, as well as the windshield surround are all solid. I drove the car last summer (fair weather only) to the tune of about one thousand (trouble free) miles. The enclosed pictures were taken in September just prior to placing the Corvair in heated storage. During the winter months the man who stores the car for me will start it up on a periodic basis. I called him recently to inform him that the car was going to be listed for sale and I asked him to start it up and to take it out for a test ride. On 5/12/11 he called and he informed me that the Monza started right up and that he took it out for a drive (speeds up to 55mph) all without any problems. Although I am going to sell the car in my absence (want to allow the new owner a full summer of enjoyment), the Corvair can be seen by any interested bidder by appointment. If there are any questions, please send email. The opening bid is set at a very reasonable number and this is a NO RESERVE auction. Happy bidding and good luck! *Additional photos can be viewed at: http://s1099.photobucket.com/albums/g398/mnewell21/
