Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a very nice 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible. For those of you that follow my auctions, it is known that I only have very nice, original cars. And we all know that every car has a story. This is a special car to me and here is the story. I bought this car 2 years ago for my oldest daughter Christine, affectionately known to most as “Teen”. Teen grew up around cars. Countless Corvettes, GTO’s, Z28’s, Trans Am’s, Chevelles, Cadillac Convertibles, and , a few Mustangs and even a 1962 Covair rampside pickup passed through our garage over the years. As a father and a car guy, one always looks forward to acquiring your child’s first car. Teen loved cars since a young age. As a toddler, I would strap her in her car seat and go for rides in Corvette convertibles, listening to her squeal with delight as her hair waved in the wind. One time, while sitting in a 71 Corvette, she told me with authority that she could not put the window down” because there was no button”. She would counsel me at the race track, telling me to just “push the pedal all the way to the floor”. At 12, she attended the fall Auburn Auction in Auburn, Indiana and quickly became a fixture, running errands on our lifted golf cart for the various car guys. She even got to drive some very nice cars around the car corral as we set up for the show. At 14, I taught her to drive a stick in a Mini Cooper S. And while the car guy in me really wanted her to be rolling into high school in a Corvette or Trans Am, the father in me knew that I had to find something that was safe and practical, as well as cool. I always thought that these Cutlasses would be perfect, but again the car guy in me knew that finding the right one would be a herculean task. I searched off and on for years. In 2009, during the most difficult personal and professional time in my life, her mom decided to “play divorce.” My kids were caught in the middle as her mom attempted to use our kids as a weapon in our divorce. When I located the car in the fall of 2009, Teen was 15, six months from getting her license. At first her mom told her the car was unsafe and shouldn’t drive it and then when she turned 16, Teen was told I was a bad father for not handing over the keys to her in the middle of the Michigan winter when she had yet to get her license. Five months later, she pulled our kids out of their comfortable life in suburban Detroit and moved them 300 miles north to a small town in northern Michigan, leaving this car in the driveway. I have stored the car for the past year hoping that things would settle but her mother has not let that happen. Realizing that when one parent chooses to use children against their spouse in divorce there is nothing the other parent can do. Not wanting to participate in the mental abuse she is inflicting on our kids, I relocated to the west coast. The car sits in Michigan. What makes this car special besides the fact it was bought for my oldest child is the car’s history. I purchased the car from the original owner, who happened to be a lady engineer in Cleveland Ohio. She cared and maintained the car to an extremely high standard for 15 years. Below is a description: 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible 3.4 Litre Dual Overhead Cam V6, Rebuilt at 80K Miles 4 Speed Automatic Anti Lock Brakes Leather Interior Completely Loaded with all comfort features Michelin Tires Ipod Hookup All books and paperwork from when the car was purchased new. Overall the car is in fantastic shape with all proper maintenance. I have the extensive records from the original owner that I can’t locate at the moment but can be verified from original Owner. The paint has some chips and scratches and some plastic pieces have faded. I would not hesitate to drive this car across the country, after all I maintained it and prepared it for my daughter, but she does not want the car.
