Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my 1986 Mercedes Benz 190d 2.5 with a super rare 5 spd manual transmission (much faster than the automatic). This is my 2nd 190d--I purchased it about 3 years ago when I lost my first one to an unfortunate accident. When I bought it the odometer was stopped on 227,000 and the car needed a bunch of work. The first thing I did when I bought it was install a new odometer that is now showing 44,xxx miles. I spent a bunch of time and money to rebuild the car and it has been my daily driver since I bought it (I commute 40 miles per day), regularly getting 38-40 miles per gallon. But, the other day I had a minor front-end collision, and while I was having it rebuilt, I traded up for a VW TDI, so now it is now up for sale. Prior to the wreck, the car was professionally maintained by A Better Wrench, a well regarded shop here in NC that specializes in Mercedes diesels. In the time I have owned the car I have spent over $4,300 with them to repair and maintain the car, not including all of the parts I purchased and replaced myself. The damage to the car from the accident was minor--limited to the fender, hood and headlight (no frame or structural damage) so I had the car rebuilt by a hot rod/custom shop -- the details of which you can see here http://www.facebook.com/media/set/fb/?set=a.176572859056158.35686.155765861136858 In the 44,xxx miles since I've owned the car, the following work has been done: - engine mounts replaced - complete replacement of 5-link rear suspension on both sides - rear subframe mounts replaced - ball joints replaced - complete steering system and damper replaced - shocks and shock towers replaced in all 4 corners using bilstein hd shocks - brake pads and shoes replaced in all 4 corners - fuel system re-plumbed - seals on injection pump and block replaced - fan, fan clutch and shroud replaced - belt tensioner, pulley and shock replaced - climate control unit and fan replaced - fuel tank sender replaced - battery replaced - glow plugs replaced, 3 recently - glow plug harness replaced - transmission fluid changed - washer pump and tank replaced - headlights replaced with new euro style headlights - hood shock replaced - hood latch and cable replaced - vacuum pump replaced - fuel filter replaced - serpentine belt replaced - the majority of hoses and rubber under the hood have been replaced - all switches in dash have been replaced - all dash vents have been replaced - odometer replaced - speedometer cable replaced - 2 window motors have recently been replaced - radio and all 4 speakers replaced So here's the good: - The car gets 38-40mpg, is safe and dependable, has had a ton of work and new parts put on it and will give it's owner many miles of service, and could be run on biodiesel if you wanted to - The car runs and drives strong--the 5 cylinder mercedes diesel and 5 speed manual combination is efficient and known to be bulletproof - The suspension is well tuned, the rear end having been completely rebuilt, and with new shocks and towers all around and new subframe mounts - The dash is in great shape with a new dash cover, new vents, all new switches, - All gauges work - It has a new kenwood cd head unit with ipod input and 4 new speakers - All 4 windows work - There's a spare tire in good shape and a jack - The tires are in decent shape with 1/3-2/5 tread remaining And the bad: - The A/C doesn't work currently - needs a new compressor - available on ebay for $120 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Rebuilt-AC-A-C-Compressor-6-Month-Warranty-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQfitsZModelQ3a190DQQhashZitem4aa7a11e60QQitemZ320639934048QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#vi-ilComp - The sunroof doesn't work (I've never messed with it) - The power antenna doesn't raise/lower - It might leave a pencil eraser sized drop of oil in it's wake every day or two as these diesels tend to do - There are several small spots on the passenger side where the clearcoat is flaking - the largest about the size of a silver dollar - There are two small, treated and painted rust spots under the rear jack points, as you see on most w201 cars - The keys I have fit the ignition and the trunk only - I've been told a door key could ordered from Mercedes, or you could easily fit a remote unlock system. All in all the car is in great shape for being 25 years old, and is in better shape than the majority of 190d's I've seen for sale. And it has the rare 5 speed manual! It would make a great and reliable daily driver for the right buyer, that will get great mileage, and can be easily converted to run on homemade biodiesel or SVO, WVO, B50, or B100. If you are local, feel free to test drive and inspect the car before bidding/buying. The car is 25 years old and is sold as-is, with no warranty. I am happy to arrange for shipping via car carrier to the lower 48, or otherwise be of assistance to complete this transaction for the right buyer.
