Factory built 1/2 ton stepside NAPCO 4WD. Appears to have the original GMC 270 motor, serial# 270 101 8020.. GMC started to build NAPCO trucks at the factory in 1956, Chevy followed in 1957. A buyer still had the option to have the dealer install the "NAPCO KIT" at the dealership. One obvious way to tell a factory NAPCO vs. a dealer NAPCO is that the VIN plate on a factory 1/2 ton NAPCO truck will have a GVW of 5600lbs. The truck that was converted will still have its original 5000lb GVW plate. This truck has the 5600lb GVW plate. Also, a factory built truck would have the transfer case brackets riveted to the frame instead of bolted on. This truck has rivets. As you can see from the pics the truck needs a lot of loving but I was told it did run when parked a few years ago. The motor is not locked, it does turn over with the starter but I have not gone beyond that point. Last used as a plow truck and the plow, pump and controls are included. Also included is a used windshield. There is no tailgate or air cleaner. The NAPCO trucks have a cult like following and because of there uniqueness are well worth saving, especially factory built units. Compared to Chevy's, very few GMC's were built, and fewer left. Most were sold to the forest or park service.
