You are about to bid on a 1979 classic Mercedes Benz 240D. This classic is an originally owned and operated Southern California vehicle. It was my fathers and I have had it for several years. It was used as a commuter vehicle in LA & Orange County for almost 10 years until retirement. I drove this classic to my Prom in 1981. It has been cared for and at our home in CA protected inside the garage. (Taken out weekly or biweekly for driving maintenance) This car has been used as a commuter car once again. I have been driving the car for the last 2 years to and from work here in Las Vegas. The exterior is in great shape, minimal dings to the armor. I get compliments every day, everywhere I go. The original paint was recently buffed out to a great shine. No rust any where. There are few paint jobs to compete with an original Mercedes. I personally replaced the front bumper that had chrome damage. It looks new. All bumper rubber is intact and near perfect. Door seals are cracked but are easily replaced and available on line or thru EBay. The power windows work as slow as the first day I used them. The left passenger power window works perfect from the back seat. Driver’s seat has a brand new cushion and all springs are in very good shape. The vinyl is well used and covered by original sheep wool showing the years but still looking good. All seat-sliding levers function and are in tact. I recently pulled the seat out and greased all moving parts when replacing the cushion on the driver’s side. All dash board indicators function flawlessly. Head lights switch on and off properly. Cruise control works perfectly every time. Blinkers and running lights are all functioning and replaced in the last 12 months. The dash has three cracks that an inexpensive dash guard cover can cover easily. The glove box light works great and the latch catches slightly but opens and closes and locks. Dome and door lights work great. The door locking mechanism functions perfectly as it was designed. The carpets are intact and preserved. Some wearing on the edges of the carpet exist under the seat fronts. The tape player does not work but of course the original Blaupunkt radio works well and picks up local radio stations and feeds them over the 4 speakers. The antena tip is gone. I just replaced the door latch rubber so the doors engage every time. The original rear window First-Aid box is very clean. The heater produces a lot of heat and all the fans work great. The AC needs Freon. All vent and air controls work like they did the first day of the assembly line. A rubber piece is missing off the ‘floor to dash’ control but the lever works and air pushes thru smooth and fast. Original key holder re-fabricated. All original MBZ Manuals included. As you know this is a small diesel engine that performs like a champion work horse and is used to this day around the world. The 240D has been on most reliable “World Top Twenty” vehicles of all time in areas of dependability and durability. The 240D has been known to go in excess of 600,000 miles and more. With only 167,000 miles this Benz can last another 20-35 years. (http://jalopnik.com/5590283/whats-the-most-reliable-car-built-since-1980) The vehicle cruises at 65 mph on the highway and as you know turtles on the side streets and up steep hills while all getting 30 mpg. They are also easily converted to run on vegetable oil. Ride is GREAT taking bumps on the road like they are not there. The auto-transmission and lever function smooth and flawless. The steering has a slight lax in the controls but remains true. The brand new Goodyear white wall tires add the classic highlight to this Benz style. I personally replaced the oil & oil filter; air filter and both fuel filters. Brakes function great and lines have been drained and replaced with DOT 4 brake fluid. This is a newer radiator. There is a slow-drip oil leak. If you know anything about the W123 Benz body style you know that the non-vacuum actuated AC and Heater system is more reliable than 300d 300SD or 300TD systems. This is a once in a Lifetime Rare opportunity to own a low miles, great condition classic like the Mercedes Benz 240D. I love this car.
