1965 Rambler Classic Convertible (Warning: These photos are from 2005, and the paint and top need replacement.) A photo from late 2005 after I got the new tires and rims. I have owned this Rambler since 1987. I drove it somewhat regularly until 1993 when I got a second car. I drove it from time to time after that. I had a 4-speed put in about 1998, and drove it even less due to not understanding the shift pattern well enough to work with the loose linkage. I drove it every day from 2005 until 2007. I have have done a lot of work on it over the years, and spent a lot of money, but never have been able to get it all together. A lot of what I had done in the past, like the suspension needs to be redone. I don't have the time or the money to complete it, so I must sell it. I removed the interior a long time ago to check for rust and never replaced it. It didn't have the right seats when I bought it. Those are still in it. I bought the correct bucket seat frames soon after buying the car, but never put them in. Those seats frames and the rear seat frames were chemically stripped in 2007 along with the dashboard. I had a shop primer the seat frames, which I later painted. The dash board has also been stripped, but is not painted. The dash is not in the car. I had the engine rebuilt soon after I bought it. A few years later I had a shop put in stainless steel valve seats so that it wouldn't have a problem with unleaded gas. In 1998 I found a bell housing and 4-speed that was in a '66, and had that put in. In 2003 I had the electronic ignition, and carb put in. In 2005 I had the tires, rims put on, but the rims were poorly plated. In 2007 one side of the engine brace became loose and fell out. This was repaired, requiring a new drive shaft, and torque tube. I don't know the mileage; it was missing the odometer cable when I bought it. I did buy one later. AMC didn't make many full sized convertibles. There were about 5,000 made of this for each of the two years it was produced. Part of one of the covers to the top mechanism was broken; it's the bottom section that holds the courtesy light. It will need a fiberglass repair. I have the broken off piece; so it could be patched together. The bell housing is missing the lower cover. It wasn't with the tranny when I got it. I've driven without it, but it should have it. The molding is off on one side; I have it, but haven't put it back on, although I did buy new clips for it. The linkage on the T-10 is loose. I learned to deal with it well enough so that it wasn't a problem while driving it daily. On Feb-28-11 at 15:02:41 PST, seller added the following information: The first new photo shows the excellent condition the top bow is in. The hook hardware is pitted, but solid. The next photo shows how the interior has been stripped out. The end of the steering column is the connector for the detachable wheel by Grant. Visible are the bucket seat frames which have been stripped, and painted. I've been driving it like this for years! I got pulled over by a cop once, and he couldn't stop laughing when he saw the interior. I have an unused speedometer cluster to replace the one I've been using. One of the other items of old, and NOS replacement parts that I have in boxes is a NOS molding for a rear corner molding that's pitted and cracked. I have a set of top molding that I haven't used. This goes between the windows and the top. The piece of the set that goes between the bow and the windshield header came apart while in storage (it's a long piece that wraps around), and might be usable once glued together again. Other photos show how the paint does need to be redone, unless you like that look. Like I mentioned previously, the plating on the rims was poor quality; I'm not sure how well they will clean up. Additional interior info: I have the door panels and the quarter panels. The door panels are black, and I got them from the same car that the seat frames came out of. The quarter panels were the original green/aqua that have been sprayed black. I also have black vent panels that came out of the same car. I have unused upholstery for the back seat that is black with red/black swirl inserts (I'll post a photo in a day or two). It's made with boat seat vinyl that's higher quality than normal vinyl. The body does have some bondo on it. These photos also show the floorboards, and the unused back seat upholstery. There is also old upholstery that came from the bucket seats. I decided to take it off so that I wouldn't lose it. "New01" The "Lifetime" top I bought from Whitney's catalog didn't last that long. The top has shrunk so that it can't be manually closed. "New02" I have the headlight bezels; some NOS some were on it originally. I have the pieces that go around the radiator, two of them are in the last photo "New09". "New03" Also included is a grill that is better shape that what's on it. Also one or two NOS grill vertical decorations. "New04" The bucket seat frames. "New05" Some of the paint is pealing off of the passenger side floorboard. Besides the center console in the photo, there are two others included, one with all the chrome, and good hinges on the compartment door. "New06" The first time I had it painted I had the shop weld on seat belt anchors for the back seat. "New07" No holes in the trunk. "New08" I have a NOS replacement for the curvy piece that goes on top of the tail light, but I'm not sure if it's for the right, or left side. "New09" New upholstery for the back seat. Old upholstery from the bucket seat frames that can be used as a sample. Also visible are the back seat frames, metal pieces that surround the radiator, the original valve covers, A sample of the type of head rest that fits the brackets welded on to the frames, and a spare cover.
