Vehicle Detail
Hello, I'm selling my project due to a baby on the way. This is as stated, a 1997 Plymouth Neon with right at 144,000 miles. I have worked on this car for many years and have put almost $5,000 into it. The body mods are: Widow rear bumper, which has been modified to fit a rear diffuser I designed, but never made....(the center section of the bottom of the bumper was cut...still have the piece that was cut). The front bumper is one of the skyline bumpers, kinda makes it look like a cat fish I think. The kit came with sideskirts...I started to make them fit, but they looked aweful (not my work....just didnt fit the car style wise....theyre just ugly). I still have the side skirts, one has been modified to "better" fit the car (im pretty sure they sent the wrong ones). The hood is a fiberglass "Scoote 2" hood, found here on ebay, it has 6 vents....way more than enough vent out heat and air from the engine bay, the hood has been drilled for hood pins which are installed. To better accomodate the scoote 2 hood, the hood latch was removed, but it's sitting in the trunk. I also have the original hood, and bumpers. The mirrors are the aftermarket mirrors with three amber and three blue leds, (passenger side has one led that doesnt light). I put brake rotors from a 2005 Neon SXT (not the SRT4, the SXT) because they are the same diameter, but they are a *bit* thicker, so they dissapate heat better, and it doesnt take quite as much brake pedal travel to stop the car (in a hurry). The calipers were painted blue, but are now chipping a little and need to be cleaned. Brake drums were painted black. The rims are the stock 15" Neon SXT 5 point (fat) snowflakes....not the 15" version of the srt4 snowflakes mind you. There are three Toyo Spectrums on the car, one is about 25% or less life left, and the other tire is an Eagle (my tire shop isnt open on saturdays when I happend to have a blowout). The spoiler came off of an 04 SXT, the tail lights are TYC Elegante's. The headlights are Depo Stealths. The trunk has been modified so you can take out two bolts and it is a flip flop trunk (opens differently *if* you want). I have never had any leaking issues in the trunk since I did the mod, it still has all its bolts and latches, just for a show feature, you can take out two bolts for the mod. The front and rear seats came out of the 04 SXT, the carpet (as well as the trunk carpet) was dyed black a while back. The speakers have all been replaced with new speakers, nothing great, but better than the originals. I cut the back plastic (c-pillar) panels of the interior to put speakers in them, but someone broke in the car and stole them...the wiring is still there though. The rear defrost panel (car does NOT have rear defrost) was modified for a switch for foglights, foglights are long gone, but switch is still there. There is a switch as well for blue lights (not on the car anymore) added next to hood release lever. Two holes were drilled in the dash, one beside the steering wheel for the glowing gauge cluster (no longer in the car) and the other for a dash tach......LONG GONE. The guage cluster was removed to make room for all new aftermarket guages, though I didnt buy them, (I need a house lol) the cluster did not work, it had already been fixed and replaced several times and I got tired of it. I do NOT have a gauge cluster for the car. The driver side fender was another project I never finished. I cut the fender to make a vent. Its a decent enough cut, but its unfinished. It would be a lot easier for you to just buy a new fender, or get the fiberglass aftermarket ones available, unless you can do body work yourself....I like doing the work, well..on cars that run. The engine: 1995 Dodge Neon SOHC...The original engine spun a rod bearing and I rebuilt it. That didn't work so well as I didn't have a non smashed timing cover to go by and cam timing was wrong and valves got bent. My friend sold me his sisters engine and 6 hours later I did a very speedy swap and it was running again. I have a cat back SRT4 exhaust setting next to the car, but it hasnt ran long enough for me to get it put on since I got it. THe exhaust goes with the car, but WILL need to be modified before it will fit, but any muffler shop can do the mod (around the rear suspension it needs a different curve than that of the SRT4). The car runs.....but it sounds funny. Theres NOT a knocking, but its chattery. Timing is dead on...perfect. Good spark, good fuel, good air. I unhooked the header and pulled the exhaust out of the way and just listened to the engine....its louder lol, but doesnt chatter as much....I personally think it's just a bad catalytic converter, as its been bad for a while now. It just sounds like the rattling is coming from the exhaust. The intake manifold is the plastic one, and has been gasket matched on the head side, ported around the throttle body, and painted silver...though its flaking now. The throttle body was upgraded to the 55mm Modern Performance TB anodized in red. ICEMAN cold air intake (one of the only TRUE CAI's you can get for the Neon). New spark plugs and wires, though with the plugs, you'd never know it as Ive been working on the car and they arent bad, but I would change them....(theyre just a little dirty, but I dont like that). New bettery terminals and 2AWG cables, overkill sure, but It was cheaper by the foot than for the pre cut, which was also 2AWG. Brand new battery, new alternator, new starter, new timing belt, comes with a new oil and water pump. Fresh oil and coolant. Tranny fluid and filter were changed around 300-400 miles ago. Energy Suspension (red) motor mount inserts were added along with a new passenger side mount. EGR system has been blocked off. The IAC is now manual via a longer screw/hose combination so you can dial in the right amount of air getting to the sensor. The '97 (blue painted....then mostly stripped) valve cover was put back on (just a looks prefference). New PCV and hoses. K&N intake filter....needs to be thrown away and replaced. There's one vaccuum line left and it was replaced with a long piece of copper tubing for looks. The air conditioning did not work and was FULL of leaks, so I deleted it. The power steering has also been deleted. The lines were looped, and there is still good fluid inside the lines. The car weighs about 2,750lbs and is NOT hard to steer without P/S. I also drive a 93 Dodge Stealth and Id compare the Neons steering to the stealth when its low on fluid. Its only "harder" to steer when youre sitting still. The only belt on the balancer now is for the alternator, (free power...maybe 3hp and less weight...about 40lbs-ish for both a/c and p/s). The engine has the '95 cam of course which if you know anything about Neons you'll know that the '95s had hotter cams.....moderately hotter. It has more vibration than the later cams and gives a *tiny* amount of power (maybe 5hp.....maybe). The weather strip under the hood has been removed as well, again...it's only 1hp...but it adds up lol. I'm throwing in the other head, it's been ported by a "friend" of mine....exhaust wasnt really gone over, but intake matches the manifold quite well and was polished a bit. No real bowl work to speak of....just a bit of smoothing out. That head makes the engine sound really good. The extra head is the one needing new valves, but it also has brand new valve seats. The valves in the head thats on the engine are fine. New rear main seal, new valve cover gasket and oil pan gasket. I have a new (well, reman) crank that goes with the car that has 0 miles on it...I put it in when I rebuilt it and that engine never ran. I parted it out and put what I could in a hurry on the '95 engine. Newer (still great shape) aluminum *FINNED* radiator....means that the tanks are still plastic, but the fins are aluminum. Yeah, I wish they were more clear when buying the parts. Newer thermostat and seal and upgraded to the SXT waterneck. The body has been worked on, there is bondo and fiberglass on it....but its a Neon, it's no fancy cool car....it's a fun little toy. It pains me to part with it, but my real baby is way more important than my old car baby project. I have I'm sure over $5K in the car, obviously thats a stupid amount of money to put into a Neon, but it was my project...does any man need any reason to dump tons of money into a car? I know I'll NEVER see that money, so Im letting go for less than the cost of the body kit and hood....I hope. Everything I have listed COMES with the car. I dont want to have left over parts to a car that I dont own anymore. That's like having a house full of your ex-wifes stuff....trust me, I know. Payment can be made with PAYPAL or cash in hand as I hand you the title. Serious bidders ONLY, don't bid unless you intend on paying for it! This is a used project car, and is sold AS IS where is...I dont gaurantee anything other than it will make it out of my driveway if I have to push it. You should PLAN on towing this car home, in its current state, I would NOT drive it. It does run, and drive, but I have no clue what is chattering, could be the exhaust as stated before, or could be something in the block....dont want to drive it like that anyway. Im not setting up any shipping of this car...not even if yousend me an email telling me you'll send me thousands more to ship to London....scammers.....NO....YOU pick the car up yourself, besides Im too lazy to look for a car hauler. This is my first time listing a car on Ebay, lets make it a good easy transaction shall we? Thank you....and happy bidding.
