Vehicle Detail
For sale is a 1974 MT250. Clear FL. title in my name. I restored the bike with alot of new parts and of course original parts were used and some reconditioned as well. The bike starts on the first kick once warmed up, second or third if it hasn't been run in a while, 20 seconds or so on choke and remove choke and the engine will idle no problem at the factory recommended 1500 RPM. The restoration took 8 mos. finding the correct parts and new parts etc. The frame was sandblasted and repainted, the cases were split and all seals replaced including crank seals, cylinder and head (glass beaded) the bearings were fine (4,000) plus miles. The cylinder received a 2nd over bore job and a 2nd over honda piston and rings. That's really all the motor needed, the tranny and clutch were fine, afterall this bike was never really ridden much. The carb was rebuilt. The oil pump is hooked up and works fine, the line looks new. The pipe is completely rust and dent free and had a new factory exhaust gasket installed today. The aluminum heat shield has a little kink in it shown in one of the pictures. I have a perfect steel one but the '74 came with an alum. one. I would not attempt to remove the kink as I think it would permanently damage the piece. The air cleaner is brand new and it is factory honda, I couldn't find any aftermarket filters and this one was found on ebay after a 3 month search, it was wanted by others as well and cost me 80 bucks but I was glad to get it. Forks flushed and fluid changed. The forks tubes look great as do the lower legs, the dust covers are new honda but the seals should be replaced soon as they do leave a little residue, not bad though. One left mirror, original honda, nos. Original factory grips, levers, etc. The wiring harness is original and uncut, the blinkers are nice the back shafts are nos, the front's are rust free and were hard to get. Oil tank nice, cap nice. New battery. The original MT250 tool box is there w/tools but the blue vinyl pouch is not original. I found a parts bike locally and amazingly it had a dent free clean tank, not even a ding. No way would I pay somebody to paint over an old paint job so I sandblasted the tank, stripper would not give the results blasting would, I used over 200 lbs. of 60/65 fine sand and spent 6 hours doing a thorough job, the petcock has a new bowl and screen I have a couple of o-ring gaskets I bought I'll throw in. The tank was repainted with daytona orange correct for the '74, I used another tank to make a transparent template for the orange and black stripes so that they would be true to original. The honda emblems were measured for placement and they are both in the exact opposite position. The decals were cleared over. The tank was so beautiful I didn't want to muck it up with the decal that says "preserve nature, always wear a helmet" I have the decal and it is included along with 2 keys, one honda key fob, the original owners manual, facatory workshop manual (not a repro) and an original parts catalog which was used extensively to make sure every nut and bolt etc. was correct, there are no hardware store bolts on this bike anywhere, all bolts are honda and either have no mark on them or the honda mark that they use on all bikes from that period. The gear shift lever is a nicer than stock solid aluminum piece that was used on the '73 and '74 CR250M, I've seen them easily fetch $75 and this one is not bent or cracked. Seat cover is new and the pan is solid and crack free, foam is solid. The bracket for the taillght is new, the left switch is new, the bike has had 617 miles put on it since completion of the restoration and it received new dunlpo 803's that pretty much look like enduro tread from that period, the spokes are not new but look good, no rust, the rims shine and are not pitted. The back shocks could stand detailing and the front brake plate could be polished, the shoes front and rear are excellent, brand new chain, the roller assy. is nice, no cracks. An extra back tire is available and I may throw it in if the bike goes somewhat above the reserve. The reserve is not that high and very reasonable for the condition of this bike, it tries to cover money spent but doesn't include my time and labor, that's hard to put a price on. People who aren't familiar with the older bikes think this bike is new. Never really intended to sell it, I just have too many bikes. I don't have a picture that shows it but the back fender also has new correct decals in between the back of the seat and taillight bracket. Someone asked, forgot to say, the charging system works fine, lights, blinkers and horn works. Speedo and tach also work. Will sell to US and Canada only, paypal deposit of $250 within 3 days please. Will help with shipping however I can. Any questions, Dan 954 746 6705 after 8 p.m. eastern time.On Apr-13-11 at 18:11:47 PDT, seller added the following information: I took a better picture of the inside of the tank today the 13th with my friend holding a flashlight, it shows the bare metal in the tank, not brand new, but it is a fairly clean solid tank or I wouldn't have spent the time, etc. on it. I did clean it out with PPG metal cleaner followed with a little acetone to wash that out before I had it painted, no fuel problems and the filter doesn't show any discoloration. I guess because I already have a bid I wasn't able to delete and add a picture but that is something I wanted to address because the picture of the tank with the cap off doesn't show the inside well enough.
