Up for auction is a 1999 Dodge Neon R/T. 5 speed, manual transmission. 4 wheel disc brakes. I am listing this car for my brother. This was his daily driver for a year and half. Decent gas mileage. Used a quart of oil about every 1200 miles. Dependable, fun to drive. That was until the timing belt idler pulley lost it's bearings. Engine does not run- has bent valves. Twin cam, 16 valve head. Here's the story: The timing belt idler pulley went bad. So we checked the cam timing and it appeared to still be correct. We proceeded to replace the idler pulley, along with the hydraulic tensioner, tensioner pulley, and timing belt with new parts obtained from the Dodge dealer. No cheap parts. After putting it all back together, the engine would not start. Compression on No. 1, 2, and 4 cylinders is ZERO.So that means bent valves. Number 3 cylinder compression is 115 psi. We suspect that even though the static cam timing was correct; there must have been enough slack in the belt while the engine was running to offset the timing and bend some valves. My brother purchased another car and decided to sell this one. Overall the car is in good condition. The clear coat on the paint is starting to bubble up here and there. There are remnants of stick-on window tint in the back window. The left rocker panel has a large dent. We think this is from a lift-arm not in proper position when the car was being raised on a lift, this happened before my brother purchased the car. Front tires wear rapidly. The alignment shop says the alignment checks out o.k. Rear tires are decent, no abnormal wear. Comes with the Dodge Shop Manual. Sold as-is. Where is. The buyer is responsible to pick-up the car. I have no way of delivering the vehicle. So bring a trailer or tow-truck. On Apr-08-11 at 06:53:10 PDT, seller added the following information: The battery appears to be dead. This has not happened before with this car. It has sat for about 4 weeks since the timing belt was replaced. I am sorry if this causes an inconvenience.
