Some 66,298 coupe and convertible 450 SL models were manufactured from 1971 until 1980. Engine The Mercedes-Benz 450 SL had an 275.827 cubic inch (4.5 liter), V-8 engine with Bosch fuel injection. The motor had push rod and rocker actuated overhead valves with an overhead camshaft. With a bore and stroke of 3.62 inches by 3.35 inches, the compression ratio was 8.8-to-1. Performance The 450SL had a torque rating of 278.5 foot-pounds at 3,000 rpm with 225 horsepower at 5,000 rpm. The cars went from 0 to 60 mph in 8.5 seconds with a manual gearbox; the automatics took 9.3 seconds. The top-end speed was 133.5 mph with a manual transmission, 127 mph with an automatic. Chassis The 450SL had a unit frame and body. It had a manual four-speed with a single-disc, dry-plate clutch or a three-speed automatic transmission. On the front were vented disc brakes with solid-disc rear brakes. The independent front and rear suspension featured double-wishbones with a diagonal-pivot swing axle. Dimensions The 450SL was 172.8 inches long, 70.5 inches wide, and 51.2 inches tall with a 96.7-inch wheelbase. The front track was 57.2 inches, and the rear track 56.7 inches. The car's curb weight was 3,483 lbs. CONDITION. THE GOOD- This 1980 450 SL is in absolutely GREAT condition! It has 146,546 original miles on it, which is low by Mercedes standards and especially low for a 1980 vehicle! I've had my mechanic service this vehicle for the little mechanical touch ups that it needed to put it into great shape! This car is ready to just hop in and drive with no worry! Another great thing about this car is that it has a brand new paint job on it! There is no body damage on this car aside from very minor dings in very few places. THE BAD- This car has very few bad things to say about it for its age, except that of its age! Because this car is over 30 years old it is gonna have wear and tear on the dash and guages being that they have not been refurbished. THE UGLY-Once again, the ugly would have to do with the age of this car. Right now I do have it running strong and smooth, but you do have to understand that this car will require up-keep and TLC to keep running at peak performance. Interior wise I've had our guy that has been refurbishing interiors for over 20 years take special care of this beauty! He went ahead and refurbished the whole interior, sparing no details, with one of the highlights being a brand new set of authentic $450 dollar black sheep skin covers that not only give the interior of this car a very classy look, but are also amazingly comfortable to sit on! I can honestly say that our interior guy is one of the best in the business and he really took his time on this one! Now exterior wise is no different, I've made sure that any little dings or dents were reparied, and finished it off by putting a BRAND NEW cherry red paint job that matched the car's original color! I HIGHLY encourage you to physically come down and touch, see, and hear this car and ask any questions and address any concerns you might have! This particular Mercedes is located in our Las Vegas location, so heck if anything it is a great reason to take a trip out to Vegas. This beauty is a 3 option convertible, which means you have the choice of driving this car with the red matching hard top which is fully retractable, you can also remove the red hard top to reveal the black soft top, and last you can drop the top all together to feel the breeze on a nice day! Whatever choice you make this car carries a very clean and classy look to it!
