Vehicle Detail
This beautiful 1964 Cadillac Fleetwood was purchased new in Shreveport, Louisiana, by the well-known oil family. It was used to chauffeur the elderly grandmother around town. When she finally passed away the car was given to a grandson, who in turn gave the car to the family gardener. He owned the car for many, many years - eventually selling the car to an attorney in Chicago in order to raise money to buy a new home. The attorney loved the big sedan and set about restoring it to it’s original glory. The paint had faded over the decades so he had the car hand-sanded down to the bare metal, then repainted with several coats of the original-style lacquer paint followed by 4 coats of clear. As the pictures show, the paint job is fabulous. Take a look at the reflections of the trees and the sky. The driver’s seat was worn, so a bolt of the original brocade material was located and the seat was recovered. The original blue leather was left intact. The entire car was inspected and a few minor mechanical issues were corrected. This is a rust-free car...it was never driven in winter and was always kept in a climate-controlled garage. The condition of the car is amazing for it’s age and has just over 41,500 original miles. I do not have written documentation verifying the mileage, but there are no gaps in the ownership history and I have no reason whatsovever to doubt that the mileage is accurate. This Caddy drives smoother and more quietly than any car I have ever owned. The reproduction Cadillac wire wheels give this car a truly elegant look. I do have the original wheels and hubcaps and they will be included with the car. The tires are brand new 225-75-15’s. The big 429 cubic engine propels this car down the road with surprising acceleration. I have had the car up to 105 mph and you’d think you were floating on air. The radio and power antennae do work and the wipers work, too. The clock does not work - they never do! The power steering and power brakes work perfectly, the transmission shifts so smoothly you can barely feel it. The air conditioning works but does need to be serviced. I live very far out and no one around here works with R-12 refrigerant. I installed a new battery as well. All 8 of the power windows work and the front seat is a 6-way electric unit. The hood and trunk open and close with no problems and all 4 doors close with a solid, heavy sound. The just don’t make ’em like this anymore. The car floats on 4 coil springs and you can hardly tell the engine is running at stop lights. I also have a very nice cloth cover for the car. FYI - That is WATER you see on the concrete on the passenger side and IS NOT any fluid leaking from the car. I am selling this fine automobile at NO RESERVE- the highest bidder wins this fine automobile. I am not a dealer. I buy and sell vintage cars as a hobby and I need the garage space. I am not claiming this car to be perfect. The condition is amazing, but it has been driven - there will be a nick or ding here and there - but the overall condition is superb. There is no warranty expressed or implied and the car is sold as is/where is. Full payment is due within 7 days of the end of auction and the buyer is responsible for shipping. I will be more than happy to help with the arrangements. I can store the car for a reasonable amount of time until it can be picked up. I have a clear title in hand and the car is ready to go. I will accept a certified bank, check but the banks now hold a bank check for up to ten days now. Wire transfer is really the preferred method of payment. Once the funds are cleared, I will overnight the title to you along with a folder of various receipts and documents as well as a shop manual. Good luck and happy bidding!
