1969 Ford Mustang 428 Mach 1!!! VIN# 9F02R150xxx Description: FORD MUSTANG COBRA JET 428 MACH 1 PROJECT from MustangBeginnings Are you needing all the power anyone could want? Up for auction is a 1969 “R” Code 428 Mustang Mach 1. Originally equipped with a 4 speed manual transmission, and optional 3.25 deep axle ratio and traction lock differential, plus its 4 bbl 428 big block engine, this Shaker Hood Mach 1 will burn rubber all the way down the block when properly restored. It‘s only non performance option was Tinted Glass. With its Power Disk Brakes and Power Steering, this car will handle easily and stop fast if you are planning to race the car. The original 4 speed close ratio manual transmission is not included, but we have a number of friends with parts for sale and can help you find the correct transmission and other parts to complete this great restoration project. We were about to begin restoration at Mustang Beginnings to fix the body on this Mach 1, but we thought maybe someone would like to do some of the work and save some money. If the car does not sell now, we will continue restoration as soon as the auction ends, and the price will be much higher when we are finished. BODY: The frame of this Mach 1 is in good condition and straight, which makes it a relatively easy car to restore. There is some rust work needed in the normal places, around the rear quarters, trunk floors, rear frame rail extensions, and tail panel. If rust repair isn’t your thing, we are here to help at MustangBeginnings. Please give us a call at 831 594 2204 to ask any questions. We have the experience and the knowledge at MustangBeginnings to do the job properly. The car has the original quarter panels. Doors and fenders also look original. The car is an original Candy Apple Red Mach 1 with Black Out Hood Treatment. The Mach 1 can be repainted to any color of your choice, but the original Candy Apple color and original White Interior with White Clarion Knit /Corinthian High Back Seats is a great combination. Please see the last picture to get an idea of how this original Muscle Car will look when finished. INTERIOR: Plan on the normal interior redo, but the good news is that you can see what is needed. You aren’t accepting someone else’s mistakes or bad repairs. Dash is in good shape and comes with its original instrument panel, but the dash pad will need replacing or recovering. The seats will, of course, need to be reupholstered, and new carpet is needed as well. The car has the Rim Blow steering wheel [good for a core]. The car comes with its High Back Front Bucket seats (out of a 71 Cougar) and rear bench seat in black, which will need to be reupholstered to white. Please see the Marti report, which shows all the original options including Power Steering, Power Front Disk Brakes, AM Radio, visibility group, and tinted glass. When fully restored, this 428 Cobra Jet Mach 1 will easily sell for $75,000 to $80,000. ENGINE: Engine bay is in great condition, and ready for cleaning and paint. The battery bay will need a little work but not much. We will be including a correctly dated 428 CJ block, date 8M2 (Dec. 2, 1968). The block has been bored .060" over and will need a little honing, but is otherwise ready to use. Complete rotating assemblies (crank, rods, pistons, rings, etc.) are available for $1,500 - $2,000. You can even stroke this 428 to 462ci. As for cylinder heads, there are options as well. Edelbrock makes aluminum heads for the cobra jet 428s (a set costs around $1,100) or original heads are often available on eBay. The original close ratio Top Loader transmission is not included. The correct transmissions are often available on eBay, but we also have a couple of friends with transmissions for sale. BRAKE SYSTEM: The previous owner removed the original front disk brakes and installed drums on the front. STEERING: The original Power Steering is also included with the car. Both Power Brakes and Power steering will make this an easy car to drive. The Mach 1 has a 3.25 Traction Lok axle 9” rear end. GLASS: The Mach 1 also has good door glass and the 1/4 side glass is all there. The windshield is broken, but they are available new for about $200. MISC. This Mustang was built on January 14th, 1969, three days ahead of schedule. Mustangs were popular then and they still are today. The Mustang comes with head light buckets, seats, and most all of its parts. I have a couple of contacts for all the other NOS stuff you may need.
