Coming from a mature, private collector, the car has been meticulously restored, maintained, garaged and covered. Simply put, the car is in SUPERIOR OVERALL CONDITION. As for vision and objectives during the restoration, this simple Impala is a living, breathing, serviceable machine that has exceeded the proud owner’s expectations in every way. This is an extremely fast, reliable muscle car that doesn’t look like a cobbled together pile of aftermarket bolt-ons. By viewing all the photos, it becomes clear that serious time and considerable money was invested to restore and create this masterpiece. Exterior: Check out the 2-stage, Black enamel. With the exception of a couple minor chips and scratches, the finish looks so deep, you could dive into it. Body gaps between hoods, doors, and fenders are of reference quality and the chrome sparkles like new. None of the rubber seals are cracked and there is absolutely NO evidence of corrosion repair or any other mishap that would cause the enthusiast sleepless nights. The full-width aluminum-and-chrome panel houses the triple-unit taillight assembly. Note some minor surface scratches in these photos The panel is a special engine-turned aluminum, making this Impala more distinctive in appearance. Surveying the car's straight and smooth coachwork today, we marvel at how well the finish was preserved over the years. In fact, with little preparation, this fine example of the marquee could be proudly displayed a local car show or Concourse d'Elegance. Mounted to the Rally Wheels are Hoosier Pro Street 26x7.50x15 Radials in the Front… …and Hoosier Quick Time 27x10.50x15 Street Legal Slicks in the rear. This car was never raced; the slicks are only for that ‘60’s Drag Look. Engine & Mechanical: The car's immaculate engine compartment is simply stunning and looks factory-409-correct, down to the decals and markings. The 409/409 engine was completely gone through and is in perfect running condition. With the exception of a stuck heater valve, everything works as it should. Surprisingly perhaps, the wiring looks fantastic, the car always runs cool, and there are no oil leaks worth mentioning. No wear item has been left unattended; as a result, this Impala is mechanically as strong as it is cosmetically. Yes, any 409 can be a very tough and reliable with a bit of preventative maintenance! The 409 Cubic Inch, 8 cylinder power plant with ceramic exhaust inhales through two, 4-barrel Carter AFB's carburetors. It sounds crisp and runs smoothly, like a turbine, with superb oil pressure, cold or hot. The 4 speed, manual transmission is in perfect harmony with 4.10 Positraction Rear End by Unitrax. The engine starts and idles smoothly in any weather, revs and pulls like an F-16 Fighter Jet, shifting smoothly through the gears with no noises or smoke. Warmed up, the oil pressure ranges from about 30 lbs. at idle to a reassuring 70 lbs. at speed. Coolant temperature remains absolutely stable, with no hint of overheating; even after extended runs or in stopped, heavy traffic on a hot summer day. Smooth, strong acceleration will pull you into the back of your seat and turn heads coming and going. Oh, and this car won’t be leaving any oil for you to slip on, nor will you see any smoke in your rearview mirror! Interior: The interior is all re-done in factory correct red (trim code 874) and absolutely immaculate. Bare-bones functionality highlights this original interior. From the loop carpeting and combination vinyl/cloth seats to the door panels and headliner… …everything is factory correct, right down to the AM radio in and rear seat radio grill. Fit and finish is flawless, you’d swear to be looking a 4-year-old, not a 49-year-old interior. This one’s that clean! What you don’t see is the Alpine RUE-4187 Under-Seat Sound System with remote. A closer look in the trunk reveals a spectacular, Alpine MRV-F450 V12 Power Amplifier driving Bazooka Base Tube Sub Woofer for the base and Eclipse Co-Axle Speakers for the mid and upper range. All this assures incredible audio performance even at speeds well above double nickel. Let’s take a peak underneath: From the new, Unitrax rear-end and KYB shocks to the 3” Flowmaster exhaust; everything below proudly displays the extensive restoration and performance upgrades. Drivability: Paramount to the Muscle Car, driving experience is the element of unadulterated fun. Handling and braking are simple and superb with no rattles, shakes, shimmies pulling or fading. All in all, this ’62 Impala is a thoroughly convincing performer. In fact, this Impala’s steering makes a mockery of the rubberized, over-assisted control mechanisms that pass for most modern cars' guidance systems. It's smooth, discreet, very precise and controllable. Gung-ho throttle steer is available if you're in the mood, well-mannered road-holding if you're not. The chassis inspires with its unsophisticated charm; its transparency is convincing. Looking back, you realize that, somewhere in time, the chapter of the true muscle car has ended. It has ended with the introduction of catalytic converters and engine management systems; it has ended with the worldwide popularity of power steering, power windows and power-assisted thinking, even in the US. It has ended with the 62 Chevy. This Impala, however, is up to any task imaginable. It could serve as a show car, a "new" old car to relive the good old days, or simply as a reliable, fun daily driver during ANY time of the year. At the very least, no matter where you go, you’ll see a smile on everyone’s face, including your own. To state it succinctly: It delivers on its promise! This 409 Impala is among the finest examples remaining from the pinnacle of the back-to-basics, muscle car era. Imagine owning this vintage Impala. In less than one week, you can be one of the very few to own and drive such a rare and beautiful collectible.
