Vehicle Detail

The 1968 Ford Fairlane Torino GT Convertible! You are viewing my (and my wife's actually) 1968 Ford Torino GT Convertible. This car is not only rare (only 5,310 were built in 1968 and only 117 just like this one) but this car has to be one of the nicest still on the road! Please read this entire listing for all the details and see all the detailed pictures of this fantastic car! This 1968 Ford is an original GT 390 Big Block with C-6 Automatic powered car. It was one of the few fully loaded Big Block GT convertibles with the bench seat (which is very comfortable...like driving your living room down the road with the top down!). This car was factory equipped with power top, power windows, power door locks, power steering and power brakes (disc front/drum rear). This car was also equipped with factory Air Conditioning but it has been removed (I still have the compressor, actually 2 of them because I found a steal on a spare). The A/C could be re-intalled if you choose to do so but I like the uncluttered look of the engine compartment better without it, besides this is a drop top baby! Drop that brand new power top and get all the "air conditioning" you want! The power locks were also removed by the previous owner but I do not know why. The power windows and top work great, just as they should. The factory radio was replaced with an AM/FM cassette player and 4 nice speakers by the previous owner. The top is in brand new condition including the headliner and GLASS rear window (not plastic!). This is truly a top of the line luxury cruiser for 1968 and was equipped like a Lincoln! This car has been in magazines and on TV. The previous owner got the car a lot of exposure in the classic car show scene. The paint job is out of this world nice! It is a factory Ford color called "Indian Fire". This is a show quality professional paint job. I have around $20K plus in receipts from the previous owner and one of the receipts is for the near $10,000 paint job. It has an added "Ghost Stripe" down the hood and trunk. The stripe is a blood orange/red pearl metallic with hand painted pin stripes (see pics) that is completely smooth with the paint and clear coated over. The color combo is awesome! It is so beautiful the pictures do not do it justice. You will love the paint and laser straight body on this car. It has all the original body panels/sheet metal and you can stick a magnet on any inch of this car and see that it was a virtually rust free car before it was block sanded and painted. I would rate the paint a 9.8 out of 10 (nearly flawless). (I could not upload all 50 high resolution pictures so please request an email from me for the rest if you are a serious buyer.) All of the Chrome is in very good condition but to make it as nice as the stunning paint job, I would re-chrome the rear bumper and a couple of the trim pieces at some point in the future if I were keeping the car (but I am a very picky fanatic!). They look great but there are a few spots here and there that are not perfect. The rest of the trim, grill and remaining body parts, emblems, lights etc. are all in excellent condition and operate just as they should. The interior is excellent with no dash cracks or rips or tears in the seats. The carpet is like new and all the interior panels are very nice. This was a very original and clean car before the body off cosmetic upgrades were made. I have A LOT of documentation on this car. The previous owner had a complete owner and mileage history and tons of receipts, I will give them to the buyer. He was an avid car collector who had some amazing cars. He ended up getting throat cancer from what I understand and began liquidating his collection. This car has approximately 110,500 miles total from what I can tell. This car runs great. Motor fires right up (upgraded to MSD electronic ignition) and runs smoothly. It has a mild cam that gives the 390 Motor just enough lope and rumble to sound the way a 60's big block muscle car should sound. It has plenty of low end torque and these FE Big Blocks are know for their smooth seamless power. The C-6 three speed automatic transmission shifts very nice and smooth as well with no slip or lag. The car stops very smoothly and confidently and steers very nicely as well. The only thing I can think of that is not operating exactly right is the fuel gauge. It does not show it is all the way full on the needle when it is full but it does work, it just shows 3/4s full on the gauge when its full. You can drive this car anywhere! It is very mechanically sound. It has a bit of a rear main seal leak that barley drips when parked (about like it did when it was a year old I'm sure! :) but if I were keeping the car, I would maybe replace it although I was told these motors always seep just a little oil like it does now. The Motor is a fairly new Jasper built engine with 4 barrel carb. The transmission and rear end are numbers matching but I don't think the engine block is. I really didn't care myself. This is not a $100K Barrett Jackson car but it is nicer than any other classic Ford you could find for the money and it will turn near every head you drive by! I can't imagine this car would not be worth several thousand more dollars in the future. My wife and I bought this car for her to drive to car shows with our kids and to enjoy the car hobby with me. We have a few collector cars and she always wanted a beautiful classic 60's convertible. We first looked at Malibus and Chevelles but man, they're everywhere! We have gone to some pretty big car shows with this car and not seen any like it. My wife is a one of a kind beautiful woman and she wanted a car to match! Anyone can buy a Chevelle but few will own one of these and frankly, I think this is a nicer car than any comparable Chevelle! This car draws a huge crowd wherever it goes. People love the look, the smooth lines and the gorgeous color! I have had several people in the process of restoring all kinds of cars tell me "I'm gonna paint my car just like that!" When you see this car in person, you will know what I mean! No exaggeration! The pictures I loaded just do not show off this amazing color as well as I wish. I hope it will allow me to upload more later. I will try to add a slide show link at the bottom of this listing so keep looking for that! Remember, this car is over 40 years old so don't expect it to drive or handle like a new sports car but it does drive just like it did when it was new and is very reliable. We are selling this car and a few of our other toys because we are looking to adopt some more children and with three kids already, we have not had enough time to really get the most out of this car. The new owner will have a very nice, beautiful car to show and enjoy driving on those sunny days ahead! I am not desperate or broke but I am setting the reserve low for this car's quality and condition. I reserve the right to sell locally or end the auction early if I choose. I have many more high resolution pictures if you want more. I can email them to you if you like. If you have questions or want to make an offer, please call me or email through Ebay. My number is 816-550-0065. You will notice my 100% feedback rating. My good name is far more important to me than money. I will treat you with respect and integrity. Please do the same for me. I am happy to discuss a deal or an offer with you but please don't try to "low ball" me with ridiculous offers or waste my time if you are not really in a position to buy this car. I have sold over 20 personally owned cars and motorcycles on Ebay and I have references from past buyers who bought a vehicle from me outside of the auction if you would like them. Also, many vehicles sell early on Ebay so if you are wanting this car, don't miss it. Call me. I will assist with shipping at the buyers expense. I have some very good classic car shippers I can refer you to if you need help with that. BID AND BUY WITH CONFIDENCE! GOOD LUCK!!!!
