1979 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbo Diesel Relisted (for the 2nd time) because of fraudulent bidders. Great candidate for bio-diesel conversion, engine starts readily and runs strong. The Good: Solid body with minimal issues for a 32 year old car. Engine compression is good with minimal blow-by. Transmission shifts through forward and reverse gears. Clean Parchment interior with no rips or tears in seats. All four power windows and sunroof open and close. Becker Mexico radio. The Not So Good: Needs brake work (seems to be a vacuum issue). Exhaust system needs hangers. Hood is from another vehicle and is very rusty. Previous owner never transferred title, so bill of sale only. Needs new battery and tires. Basically, this is a mechanic's special or good organ donor... although it is really too nice to part out. I purchased the car to swap hoods with a 6.9 project, hence the rusty hood currently on this diesel. It was off the road some time due to the lack of brakes ( I did drive it home a short distance using the emergency brake, and the transmission shifted through the gears as it should, including reverse). To be roadworthy it needs (at a minimum) a new battery, fresh tires, exhaust hangers, and whatever ails the brakes, which seems to be a vacuum booster issue. The odometer reads 211, 000 miles... I have no idea if this is accurate or what the service history is but the engine fires off readily and runs strong with minimal blow-by. I have a Florida title which the previous owner filled out but never transferred... not sure how hard that would be to straighten out but I will provide a bill of sale. *Additional info: The A/C does not work but all components are there. The defroster blower works. There are areas of rust on bottom edge of driver's door and at the edges of the wheel wells- mostly on the passenger side (contact me for photos).
