Vehicle Detail

Welcome to my auction of my diesel rabbit. If you have recently seen this listing, I had to re-list due to unpaid winning bid. Please do not bid unless you are prepared to buy. I have a large amount invested in this car as it has a vast amount of new or newer parts. I purchased the vehicle from my sister about three years ago. She had it for less than a year and she is no mechanic so I purchased it so I could enjoy the miles per gallon diesel rabbits provide. Well, the car immediately needed a new starter, alternator, cv joint, partial exhaust, brake pads and shoes, two new brake wheel cylinders in the rear, glow plug relay, vacuum pump rebuild, oil pan gasket, wheel bearings and lower ball joint on passenger side front, rear bearings in back on both sides, new strut on front drivers side, fuel filter, gear oil change in the manual transmission, and coolant flush and fill. She had about eight hundred dollars worth of work done on it when she bought it. I have her receipt...it lists shift linkage replacement, injector pump rebuild, water pump and housing replacement, alternator belt, upper radiator hose, and some other minor things. I have many of the receipts for the parts I put into it. The car also has two new tires on the front. The car has over 219,000 miles on it. the speedo cable broke approximately six months ago and the car has sat for about three of those six months. I started it two weeks ago and it started up easily but has rougher idle. The vehicle was very trustworthy until I parked it three months back due to consumption of oil. The oil I was having to put in it made the benefits of a diesel motor not quite so beneficial. It was getting to where the air filter was getting saturated with oil and a friend of mine said it was because oil was getting past the rings. He suggested I use 20W 50, a heavier weight oil, to slow the oil blow by. It helped a little but not all that much. Beings that the compression on a diesel motor is so much higher than a gas motor, it is no real surprise. It runs and drives but I would highly suggest trailering it home. I would not trust it to get you there with the high use of oil. I would say that it now uses approximately three to four quarts in about 250 miles. A lot. The transmission shifts a little rough into first, especially in the real cold weather. Transmission oil was free of any shavings when I changed it. Don't know about the previous history of clutch replacement. I feel it is still okay. There are three peculiarities about the rabbit...One, if you park up hill and let it set for any amount of time, you have to use the priming bulb in the engine compartment to pump fuel into the injector pump prior to starting. Usually not difficult. two, the rabbit has no engine shut off solenoid so it is necessary to hod the brake and let out on the clutch while the transmission is in gear, to shut off the vehicle. Three, the rear passengers side door only opens from the inside. There is no air conditioning and I have some spare parts that go with the car. Nothing worth listing really...some ac parts, good timing belt. The body has some dents and scratches and the paint is faded (please see pictures), the body has some rust (Again, see pictures.) The interior is not too bad--some wear on the upholstery, sun fading, and an opening where the radio goes (it was stolen). You will notice from the pictures, that the battery is not installed. This is because I keep it inside to keep charge up and will install upon final sale. also, the glass is good, there is a cracked rear passengers side turn signal that has a bead of clear silicone on it. I have a plastic cap for a gas cap because I lost the other. The front tires are new with maybe 600 miles on them. The rear tires are usable. The bezel around the front lights and grill has been pieced but doesn't look unsightly. The car has a clear Kentucky title and I have it in hand. I have taken the time to go to the license branch and sign and notarize my selling info in an attempt at saving the buyer any hassles. So...good luck bidding. I have informed you of all I know about the vehicle. It could be a nice car if someone wants to put some time into the oil consumption condition of the engine. I live in Kentucky and the vehicle is being sold as is, where it is. You will need to pick it up at my place of residence. If you decide to drive it out...you do so at your own discretion, but like I said earlier, I would not trust it with the way it uses oil so I would prefer you take it out on a trailer. a 150.00 deposit is due within 48 hours of auction end. Pay-Pal welcome. Upon arriving to pick up the rabbit I require the balance to be paid in cash. Thanks for your interest, Daniel
