Vehicle Detail
Up for auction a 1956 Matchless G80S 500 single I thought I'd never part with. She's a good old motorcycle that I've enjoyed owning for several years. Too be honest I've mostly just admired her and only ridden a handful of times. When I aquired the bike I already had a large collection vintage motorcycles and very little time to ride them. Most are all gone and I'm down to parting with my favorite's. Even after sitting for periods of time this 56' Matchless never fails to start right up. If youv'e never ridden one there much different than a typical British 500 single plodder. I also had a BSA B33 which was a nice bike, but it just kinda thumped along in a non-hurried fashion. I discovered the Matchless to be a very different machine. It really goes and rev's more freely. The handling is also fairly sharp and light. The ride is also is much smoother. I was also impressed with a overall quality feel that I didn't expect from a 50's machine. Things to know...... Bike has 22,262 miles Odometer, Speedo and Trip all function as they should. The paint on the rims has been removed. No battery installed. All leads are marked. The solo seat and pillion are period items, but of course not factory issue. Never cared for the bars which are too narrow Tire's are in decent shape There are a few scratches There is a dent on one of the lower fork leg shields. There is a handful of incorrect nuts/bolts (seat mounting, rear fender, license plate) This is the only motorcycle I've parted with that inspired my wife to call me an idiot for doing so. It is not concourse or mint, just in good shape and pretty. The clutch plates are sticking from sitting. First gear is a pain. They need to be disassembled and cleaned. It is running an Amal Concentric carburator. Inside of tank is in good clean shape. Couple cables seem too long as if it had taller bars at one time. I just wanted to get the listing started while inspired. After a proper bath and polish I'll be adding more pics and additional info. Please feel free to ask questions!..........
