Vehicle Detail
This is an extremely mechanically well maintained example of one of Porsche's best platforms, the 911 SC. The "SC" (1978-83) is considered by many enthusiasts to be among the best 911s to date. It's amazing reliability, coupled with excellent performance characteristics, have ensured this reputation. Of the roughly 58,000 Porsche 911 SCs built over 6 years, only about 5,000 of those were cabriolets, which were only produced for model year 1983. Roughly half of these (or just over 2000) were brought to the U.S., making SC cabriolets rare and difficult to find. The southern example you are considering is a two owner car with approximately 123K original miles, that has always been mechanically serviced in a meticulous manner. While it is not perfect cosmetically, most everything mechanical and functional is in near perfect working order. The car has spent it's entire life (until this month) in the Columbia South Carolina area, and has been consistently serviced by the same Porsche specialist facility since 1993. Even all the original books and manuals are included. This SC comes with over $10,000 worth of documented service, including: * Valve adjustment (at approx 100K miles) * New clutch, flywheel, gaskets & seals & oil pressure switch (at approx 108K) * Full factory recommended 15K mile interval service (at approx 117K) * New new brakes and tires all around (at approx 117K) * New ignition switch (at approx 117K) * Full service ($1,300) (at approx 117K) * New plugs & wires (at approx 120K) * Air box pop off valve * Reconditioned original Fuchs wheels * Full service with compression test in January 2011 (last month), with the following results: 160, 175, 175, 175, 175, 176 As you can see, this all original example (other than updated CD player), has been kept bone stock and extremely true to form. While it is 100% RUST FREE, to make this cab a real show worthy example, the new owner would want to consider a fresh coat of Ruby Red Metallic paint, as there are numerous scratches and minor blemishes throughout the car, that are evidence of it's (all original) 28 year old paint (pics shown when possible). This car has been meticulously maintained to be driven and enjoyed - not for the show circuit! The new owner will decide what's important to them: freshly restored beauty, or original patina! As you can see from the pictures, the interior of this SC is in very good condition, and shows minimal wear for it's age. There are no tears on the leather and no dash cracks! The convertible top has been replaced within the last few years, with a high quality OEM replacement piece, and is overall in great shape. The rear window is good as well. The only issue with the top is one small cut (barely noticeable, see pic). It can be easily patched, or repaired. Also included is the convertible top boot, which snaps into place, when the cabriolet top is lowered. Put simply, the new owner can proudly enjoy this car as is, or enhance the few cosmetic issues as desired. It runs and drives fantastically. Good, honest, original SCs are getting more and more difficult to find (I've owned about 8 SCs, and each one keeps getting more expensive!), and with their historic reputation, these cars are destined to be collectible classics. With their ultra low production numbers, the cabriolets are already outpacing the other platforms in yearly appreciation (about 15% in the last 3 years - during the recession!). I encourage all potential buyers to come inspect the car in person prior to buying or bidding. Feel free to call me with any questions or for more information. Car condition is subjective. I have owned over 50 Porsches, and am picky about my cars, but potential owners should decide for themselves if this car is for them. Car is sold AS IS, WHERE IS. I can help with very reasonable shipping arrangements, but transportation is ultimately the responsibility of the buyer. Zero or negative feedback bidders please contact me prior to bidding or your bid may be cancelled. Please only bid or offer if you are serious. Finally, feel free to email or call me at 574-361-5315 with any questions, more details, or if you'd like to make an offer. Good luck! On Feb-15-11 at 10:01:22 PST, seller added the following information: *Mileage reading is approximate, as I just realized that the odometer is currently not working (very common with these VDO units). Has not been out of service for long, and maintanance records show mileage progression until recently. There are service facilities that specialize in these gauges (like Palo Alto Speedometer in California), and it's not difficult or expensive to remove and repair. Just wanted to be up front and honest. Thanks!
