Vehicle Detail
1963 Mercury Monterey S-55 4 Door Hardtop Breezeway. Very clean, rust free, Montana Car. My research indicates the following about this car. Please conduct your own research to confirm any of this information. Thanks. 1963 was the only year than an S-55 option was available in a 4 door hardtop. All other S-55 models in this and later years were 2 doors. This is one of 1203 cars. The VIN indicates the following:. 3 1963 Model year Z St. Louis Assembly Plant 60 Monterey S-55 4 Door Hardtop Z 390 4 Barrel 300HP The car is a combination of Mercury Monterey Custom options with S-55 model features: It has the following: Monterey Custom options. Tire level full length moldings, Back-Up Lights, Courtesy Light Group, Electric Clock, Two-speed Windshield Wipers S-55 Features: S-55 Insignias on the rear fenders and Glove Box door, Special Hubcaps, Vinyl upholstery, Bucket seats, Center Console, Front and Rear Armrests and Padded Dash, Automatic Transmission Other options include: Power steering, Power Brakes, Outside remote control mirror, Padded visors, Push button radio (AM), Front seat belts, Tinted glass. All Chrome, Moldings, and trim are in great condition except as noted. The trim tag on the door has the following information: Body 75C S-55 4 Door Hardtop Color I Castilian Gold Trim 58 Light Gold and Medium Gold Date 21L November 21 1962 Axle 1 3:00-1 Trans 4 Automatic The car has been recently repainted in the original color and shows very well. There are a couple of paint chips under the passenger side door. Several scratches on the passenger side fender top from a careless mechanic, a scuff mark on the roof at the drivers side rear (this may buff out). Photos of these are included. I have some touch-up paint from the material used to re-paint the car that will be included in the sale. There is a ding in the lower molding in front of the right rear wheel and a spot of damage about 1 inch in diameter on the top of the right side of the rear bumper (see photos) The interior has NOS Seat Covers installed. The carpet is black and I am not sure if this is the original color. The console and instruments, etc are in very nice condition. The original dash pad is wrinkled (see photos). Headliner is good. Interior lights work. Front seat belts were an option in 1963. The seat belts are the correct color, but I don't know if these are factory parts? The drivers side rear door armrest is missing some material and the drivers side door panel has a warped area at the very lower right hand corner. All of the glass is Car-Lite and original date coded. The windshield is cracked (see photo). All of the windows roll up and down easily except for the passenger side rear which takes a little more cranking effort. The Breezeway window rolls up and down easily. The vent windows work. The weatherstripping over the drivers side door is very worn. No rust in the trunk, the trunk mat is original but worn, Jacking instructions on the trunk lid. Jack and spare are in place but need to be repainted. The cardboard panel on the passenger side of the trunk is missing. The engine starts and runs smoothly, the original paint is on the valve covers and air cleaner. The original Autolite 4100 Carburetor is in place with a 62L tag. The carb seems to be running a little rich and may need adjustment. The transmission was replaced in 2007 with another unit. This included the modulator. I will include these receipts. The transmission rear seal and selector seal are leaking and will need to be replaced. Starting out in Low range the transmission can be shifted to Drive 1 and Drive 2 smoothly. If you start in Drive 1 or Drive 2 the transmission slips briefly before engaging properly. I think the bands will need to be adjusted. I think this can be done externally on these transmissions? The frame, suspension, wheel wells, etc show little rust. The floors are very solid. I have included a number of photos of these area. The following repairs and inspections totalling over $1800 were performed in December 2010, I will include these receipts in the sale. New fuel pump ($62), new brake master cylinder ($103), new power brake booster ($631), new rubber brake hoses ($100), new oil pressure sender ($33). New battery. A freeze plug was replaced, Oil changed, intake and valve cover gaskets were replaced and the brakes were inspected. The following is the operating condition of the car. The headlights (high and low beam) work, heater works, wipers work, horns work, brake lights and turn signals work, the clock is in place but not working. 2 sets of original Mercury keys are included. This is a very clean and collectible car. Buyer responsible for shipping and insurance costs. I can help with coordinating shipping here. I have the clear Montana Title. It is signed and notarized by the legal owner. It is not titled in my name.I will fax a copy of the title to the winning bidder at the end of the sale.
