Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a 1991 BMW 318is race car in great condition, ready to race. The car has only been raced for about two and a half years and has never been wrecked. The car has dominated NASA Florida's German Touring Series (GTS2 class), and I hold record lap times with this car for the class in all of the Florida region tracks (Sebring- 2:34.2, Homestead- 1:42.7, PBIR- 1:31.2). The car is easy to drive, fast, and has low maintenance costs. This lightweight car weighs about 2000 lbs. and is significantly faster (6-8 sec/lap depending on track) than top "Spec E30" cars. It has many high quality components. ENGINE Metric Mechanic built 2.1 liter M42 race engine (top quality build, see Metric Mechanic's website. This engine is their "Rally" engine including their "Pulse Chamber" intake manifold and windage tray, but with solid lifters allowing the engine to safely rev to 8000+ rpm. It has a mass air flow sensor conversion, custom intake, and the stock ECU is completely laptop tunable for fuel and spark timing with Miller Performance's W.A.R. Chip. It has been dyno'd at 150-167 wheel horsepower/ 132-142 lb/ft wheel torque depending on tune/dyno. This engine has just 3 weekends on a completely rebuilt head (the reason the head rebuild was an accidental over-rev with a cold engine during a warm-up lap cracking a camshaft). The bottom end was checked at that time and in near-new condition. The head was completely rebuilt with no compromises by Metric Mechanic, and record laps times were all set with engine as it currently is. Stock engine is included (approx. 180K miles but ran perfect before removed). DRIVETRAIN The car also has just 3 weekends on a NEW (not rebuilt!) BMW Getrag 240 transmission. It has a JB Racing 9 lb. aluminum flywheel and a Spec stage 4 racing clutch/pressure plate. This under-stressed clutch (rated for up to 305 lb/ft torque!) was checked when the transmission was replaced and is in near-new condition. New guibo and shift linkage bushings. It has a Metric Mechanic built multi-plate-clutch LSD with 4.45:1 ratio. With the combination of gearing and a flat torque curve, the engine always feels at its sweet spot while at speed on the track. BODY/INTERIOR The car has a fiberglass hood and rear decklid and I.E. fender flares (original hood and decklid included). It has a front splitter and APR carbon fiber rear wing. All windows are Lexan including front (car has no door windows). Sparco Evo seat (2/08 man. date). Window and right-side net and fire extinguisher. Aftermarket tachometer, coolant temp, oil temp, oil pressure, AFR guages. Full cage, welded in, with extra chassis stiffening bars. SUSPENSION It has Ground-control adjustable coilovers, Eibach race springs (500#/700#), revalved Bilstein dampers, I.E. hollow swaybars, all hard bushings, and E30 M3 aluminum front control arms. BRAKES Stock 4-wheel disc brakes (same as used on the MUCH heavier spec E30 race cars) with ABS deleted are more than adequate. With extra front cooling ducts, stainless steel brake lines, Motul RBF600 fluid, and Hawk racing pads, brake fade is never an issue. WHEELS/TIRES Included will be 2 sets of wheels of your choice (all wheels available/negotiable, see pictures): set of silver 15x8 xxr wheels w/ used Hoosier R6 tires 225/45/15, set of red 15x8 xxr wheels w/ used Hoosier A6 tires 225/45/15, a set of stock mesh style 14x6.5 wheels w/ barely used full tread Toyo RA1 tires (rains) 225/50/14, and a set of black Diamond Racing steel (don't laugh, record times were on these steelies!) 14x8 w/ Hankook Z214 c51 compound tires 225/50/14 MISC. Lightweight Odyssey battery, electrical cut-off switch, front strut tower brace, front subframe reinforcements, urethane motor/transmission mounts, lug stud/nut conversion, electric radiator fan, "Cool Shirt" ready . At original build (2-3 years ago): new wheel bearings (all 4), new axles, new radiator/thermostat/radiator hoses, new tie rods, new differential bushing, new brake master cylinder, new clutch master and slave cylinders, and new steering coupling. The car is available for immediate delivery. I am a european car enthusiast, racer, and BMWCCA, PCA, PBOC, and NASA member. Although this is a great car, and I have done my best to accurately describe its condition, I strongly encourage inspection prior to purchase. This car is sold as is.
