1978 Maico 440 MC. Good running bike, nice cylinder fins, no damage to cases. Started with two kicks after a carb cleaning. Wheels are original and fairly straight, with the rear having a little wobble. Good kicker splines and on kicker shaft. Bearings all around, wheels, steering stem, swingarm, all feel good. New Michelin rear tire, straight original bars, levers, fenders, rear shocks, nice fork tubes. Throttle is one of the original Gunner Gasser's made in Sweden. Terry cables all function nice. Clutch pull is smooth, shifts great. New side panels and front plate are DC plastics. Original Corte Cosse shocks have good dampening, but one is weeping slightly, I think from not being used much. The bad is the paint, fenders have scratches on front and the rear has some damage with the mount holes. The fork seals are leaking. Kick lever is rusty. Gas tank has damage on one side and just in front of the seat on left, as seen in photos. One side of the tank has an original emblem. Petcock leaks a little. Exhaust pipe has repairs to the mounts and center cone. The seat cover needs to be replaced. The foam is nice, it is the stiffer seat foam. Muffler has a dent which should be visible in photos. It is rideable as is, but it is a great start for a cheap restoration project, as the engine will only need a cleaning and paint on the cylinder. The engine was like new when I got it and I have not put much time on it. The 1978 440 models were not imported in as many numbers as the 400, and are more rare and sought after. The Maico Magnum models are fantastic handling bikes, and on some courses, the 78 79 models are easier to go faster on than even the 81 models. Shipping will be the responsibility of winning bidder.
