Vehicle Detail
1981 VW diesel rabbit pickup, NEW 1.9 N/A Diesel This truck gets 45 MPG, and if nothing but freeway will get closer to 50 MPG all the time! As with any older vehicle there are many different aspects that need to be covered. I am sure I will miss something so please feel free to email me. My father and I have gone through 6 of these trucks now so we are aware of the issues and areas to look out for. This truck is in GREAT mechanical shape. But in the interest of being completely honest with anyone reading this, the last thing that needs to be done to make this a show truck is a light sanding and repaint. 1.9 N/A Diesel (NEW ENGINE) 5 Speed Engine installed approximately 2.5 years ago, new. Estimated 15,000 on engine since install. New CW Joints New Bearings (4) New Front Shocks New Radiator Added “Manual” Glow Plug switch. White “highboy” Fiberglass, white topper. (Included in this sale is the canopy that is pictured with the truck. However, if you don’t want the canopy, we do have a custom Truck Box that is made for this truck. I can send photos if you are interested. If you want the truck box, we can swap the canopy out for the box and keep the canopy. Total mileage on the truck is unknown. The speedometer works, but as with most of these trucks the odometer does not work. We have installed an hour meter, oil pressure, and volt meter on the engine that we use for maintenance intervals. This is NOT a show truck, but it is mechanically sound and just about everything on the drive train has been replaced. The strut towers are rust free. The body is rust free except for a small area on the right front wheel well. The 1.9l engine was purchased new and cost $5,000 to purchase. It is a great engine and a vast improvement over the original 1.6l engine. The interior is not perfect but everything works. The seats are very comfortable, but the original vinyl is cracked, we have always had seat covers so there was no need to fix the seats. Glass is in great shape. Back screens in the canopy are ripped, but are an easy fix. This truck runs great. It routinely gets between 48-52 mpg all the time. My dad drives the truck weekly from Weiser to Boise and loves it, but as I said before it just doesn’t get as much use as we would like.
