Under the hood is an overhead-valve 287.2 CI "Strato-Streak" V-8 engine, which was a first for Pontiac that year. This Pontiac has the Power Pack option also, replacing the 2-barrel carburetor which produced 180 horsepower, with a 4-barrel carb that raised the gross horsepower to a comparatively lusty 200 for the time. Engine is in superb condition with newer belts and hoses, and is ready for cruising. It is also equipped with the four-speed Dual-Range Hydra-Matic transmission, supplied in combination with 8.00:1 compression heads. This "new" combination brought the top speed up over the century mark at 100.3mph, an improvement over the previous year's L-Head top speed of 92.8mph (as tested by Motor Trend magazine). This all steel Fisher bodied "Custom Catalina" model clocks in at 210.2" long, 75.4" wide, with a 124" wheelbase. The adoption of the new panoramic windshield was also a new feature with a hood "that bows low to offer you a fine new close-up of the road." It carried "the sparkle of twin Silver Streaks," and just behind it was the new "Hood-High Cowl Ventilation" air intake, according to the sales brochure. Sitting atop the hood was one of the neatest design cues of the era, the illuminated Indian hood ornament. What also makes this design really stand out is the signature split rear bumper. The interior of the automobile is excellent shape, with the turquoise and ivory seating free from rips and tears. The carpets are free from stains and in superb condition. The headliner is free of any rips or holes. Accompanying the original Pontiac push-button radio is a JVC AM/FM cassette player with remote for a CD changer under the dash, and a pair of 6 x 9 speakers in the back deck. It has just over 94,000 miles, and a great example of a survivor from a past era. In the trunk you will find a full sized spare as well as the original carpeting. The wheel covers are in excellent shape without any curb marks, as are the stainless steel fender skirts. This vehicle is solid underneath with the undercarriage, body mounts, and rails, pans, and frame in very good condition, with no problems and showing no signs of decay. Sale of this automobile includes the original Owner's Guide, a 1955 Pontiac Shop manual, a 1955 DuPont color chart, a 1955 Pontiac Sales Brochure, and a number of magazine advertisements from the Saturday Evening Post, etc. espousing the beauty and performance of their newest creation.
