Vehicle Detail
1971 Plymouth Road Runner This is how I got the story on this Road Runner at the time of my purchase. The original owner received a DWI back in late 1978. "Driving While Intoxicated" That was the classification for drunk driving back in the 70's. Anyways, he parked this car in his driveway the "Day After"! It sat there for 30 years until I got it 2 years ago. This is the winter restoration that you've been looking for. I always intended on restoring this bad boy, but I find myself in a bit of a financial situation, so I am willing to let the auction ride. Please only bid what you can afford. This Road Runner has not been fired up since way back then, so the engine will most likely need to be gone through. The rust you see on the car is mostly just surface rust, but the entire car does need a complete restoration. The frame and floors are in surprisingly very nice condition. I could only see one small spot on the drivers side that could use a small patch. The trunk however looks like it may need replacement, but I did not clear it out to see for sure, but yes the 70's style oil based lamp is included in this sale free of charge. I was told that the engine is the numbers matching 383, and the mileage is original. If anyone knows where I can check the numbers to verify what I believe to be true, I will definitely post the verification. It is extremely hard to find a Road Runner that has all the original goodies on the car still in tact. The Tuff wheel, pistol grip 4-speed, gun turret exhaust tips, 150 mph speedometer, tachometer, original AM radio, Mopar sport wheels with all four centers and beauty trim rings, and that highly sought after air grabber hood with all the hardware inside. I was told that these hoods can sell for anywhere from $3500-$5000 alone. The air cleaner is missing, but those can be purchased aftermarket nowadays almost exactly like the originals. It looks like it could be a six pack air cleaner set-up by the size of the hardware under the flapper door. I posted the data plate for everyone to check the authenticity of this vehicle. I truly believe everything to be original as it came from the factory. The door tag has this car built in Canada in August of 1970, but there is a Mr. Norm's Grand-Spaulding key fob on the key chain. This very well could have been an original Mr. Norm's car. All the original panels still line up the way they did when the car was built. I did not feel any sagging in the doors, and I see no signs of this car ever being in an accident. Anyone is welcome to come out and take a look during the course of the auction. I always try to list everything I know, but if there is something that peaks your curiosity please feel free to ask. I pride myself in answering every question with the utmost detail, so if you ask I will certainly give you the most honest and precise answer that I possibly can. These cars are capable of bringing in some serious money when they came from the factory with all the goods in one package. I paid a lot for this car, and always intended on keeping it in my personal collection to replace the 1968 Road Runner that I had in my youth, but I have too many projects and the tax man is due. This is a wonderful investment that you can work on and enjoy. They only make them original once as the saying goes. Good Luck and Happy Bidding!! On Dec-18-10 at 16:38:35 PST, seller added the following information: I would like to thank all of the gentlemen that have been guiding me in locating the numbers on this old Road Runner. You know who you are! I've been freezing trying to accommodate all the questions. To date I found a 192 on the transmission, so that looks to match. I found a 383 stamped on a 45 degree angle spot by the distributor. I am supposed to look further for a G in front of the first 3, so I'll be looking for that letter next. I have been searching for the numbers on the block as well. I know I'm getting close, but have not located it yet. I can just say that whoever gets this car will be very happy with how the frame rails are. More updates are coming. If anyone would like to come out tomorrow just let me know. Thanks! On Dec-18-10 at 17:40:46 PST, seller added the following information: It's getting way too cold out there to keep looking for the block numbers, so if anyone one is interested I suggest that they come out and take a look for themselves. I'm a 442 guy, so I've never known where to check Mopar numbers until guys were trying to explain to me. If numbers are a big thing for anyone personally when bidding, the car will be available for viewing all the way up to the end of the auction. I suggest that you come out in person to make absolutely certain, because what you see is what you get. Maybe you can find them because I sure had no luck. Thanks for the interest! Dave
