Vehicle Detail

1972 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 Convertible This is a fine example of what a 1972 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 convertible looked like when it came from the factory 38 years ago. If you always wanted one back in high school here is your opportunity to treat yourself to an early Christmas present. This is the Oldsmobile that you have been saving up for! According to the Olds Faqs website 1971 was the last year that the 442 came as a separate model, and there is no such thing as a fake 442 in 1972. The 442 was an option, so whether it was ordered as a 442, or a local dealer, or a private owner installed all the 442 options they are all Cutlass Supreme's or Cutlass S bodies. This is why all 442's from 1972 have Cutlass Supreme on the glove box door. This sweet Oldsmobile was was made to look like the W-30 model which would have an X in the vin number if it were a true W-30 car. This car was recently painted red with the white stripes to make it appear as a W-30. It has the W-25 forced ram-air induction dual snorkel hood. I was unable to line up the twist downs for the hood properly, so I left that up to the next owner. I just ran out of time! It does however have the primary and secondary regular locking mechanisms in place. This car also has the D35 dual sports-styled outside mirrors with the drivers side being remote controlled. It has the D55 Sports console, and the N34 Custom Sport steering wheel, JL2 power disc brakes up front, and the W35 rear deck lid whale tail spoiler. There are four nice raised white lettered hard to find period correct B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A tires with P235 70R/14's in the front, and P245 60/14's in the rear on N66 Super Stock II wheels with bolt on centers painted the color of the car. There is a full size matching Super Stock II spare tire in a nicely detailed trunk with the original jack. The rubber gasket was replaced around the inside of the trunk. The chrome is in nice condition all around the car with the cut-out rear bumper with factory trumpet exhaust tips running out of both sides of the nice sounding dual exhaust. The engine compartment was beautifully detailed with all the little things that are usually missing on these cars after all these years. I tried to replace all the proper decals to make this Olds appear factory correct. There is a brand new white convertible top with new back glass, and a new well liner. This top goes up and down very fast, and it fits like a glove. It has an AM/FM cassette player in the dash, but the dash was never cut up and appears in very nice condition. The interior is in good driver quality condition as you can see from the pictures, but the next owner may want to recover the seats to make them perfect. The carpet was replaced prior to my ownership and shows very well. The passenger sun visor still has the original vanity mirror. I am enclosing an original AM radio in the auction for those of you who enjoy the complete factory appearance. I have the original 1972 owners manual, consumer information, and the emission control systems manual that will all be included. This car has air conditioning and is all hooked up. I have owned this car since 1999, and never tried to charge the A/C. It is still set up on the R-12 system. This is the original numbers matching engine. I checked the numbers myself. The oil was just changed, and the car was tuned up last week with new spark plugs, wires, rotor, distributor cap, and air cleaner. The wires are Taylor hi-performance 8mm. All three belts were replaced at that time. A new fuel pump was installed this past fall, and the battery was replaced with a new one six months ago. I purchased this car from an awesome Chicago Police officer that took very good care of it, and it has been garaged ever since. The mileage is correct at 105,803, but the engine was completely rebuilt within 2,000 miles, so this car should last for many years to come. This was a very solid body that was well taken care of over the years. These cars are getting harder and harder to come across, so here is your opportunity to pick up a sweet car at a nominal price. Why spend over $100,000 at a Barrett-Jackson auction when you can have the same look for less than a quarter of the price? What you see is what you get! If you've ever driven one of these cars you know how wonderful they drive. I personally feel that there is no finer muscle car on the planet than a 1972 442 Convertible! It took a great deal of time, money, and effort to make this car into a W-30. I was delayed in getting the pictures because I was waiting for the snow to melt on my inclined driveway, but I know everyone has waited long enough, so I took what pictures I could inside my garage. The snow has not melted, but I will have the full body pictures added with the top up sometime on Saturday. It's tax time, so this car will sell so don't delay bid now and bid often! This auction ends on Sunday at 7pm, so make sure to get all your bids in before the Sunday Night Football game. I pride myself in answering every question in detail with the utmost honesty, so if you feel that I may not have covered something please feel free to ask. I will get back to you promptly. Don't miss out on this incredible investment potential that would most likely bring over $25K in the spring! This is a no reserve auction!! Good Luck and Happy Bidding!!! On Dec-11-10 at 18:27:59 PST, seller added the following information: It was raining today in Kenosha, but I was able to add several full body pictures outdoors. They are located at the end of the picture section. The ram-air hood is a bit raised on the drivers side body shot due to the twist down not meeting the receiver properly. They would not allow me to add anymore pictures, nor move them up to the front, so I hope everyone has the opportunity to see how nice this car shows. Everywhere you drive all heads are sure to turn! Enjoy your evening and please only bid what you are willing to pay. Thank You!
