Vehicle Detail

This car is relatively rare, as 2-door models accounted for only about 10% of Nash sales in 1948. Last year of this body style. As far as I know, the car is originally from Idaho (and the body condition strongly supports that). I purchased the car in October, 2005. A previous owner repainted the car (light blue body & dark blue top) over the original pea green . The original engine has been replaced with a later year Rambler flathead rated at 90 hp compared to the original 75 hp. This conversion modified the original motor mounts to accept the later engine and also modified the steering linkage. I purchased the car knowing that it needed work to be drivable and I've corrected the steering issue and found the correct original style motor mounts. I have a 1965 ohv version of the motor that would bolt in correctly (same engine family as original equipment) that would give 125 hp, which is available with the car, if desired. This ohv engine is in a 1965 Rambler American, and runs fine (you can test drive it). Interior is in nice condition; no tears or rips. Windows are clear and NOT cracked. All chrome is in good condition (bumpers are shiny but NOT at a "show chrome" level). No trim is missing. The interior woodgrain has been painted over in a dark blue (same color as top).. Car is available for inspection. I purchased the car to restore but never had enough time to give the car the attention it deserved. I have always had the car stored inside; the car is now in a rental storage area (where the photos were taken) with rent paid through the end of December. Beyond that point, rent would be the responsibility of the purchaser @ $25 monthly. NOTE: The outdoors photos were taken TODAY (11-27-2010) to give a clearer look at the Nash. The correct front wheels & tires are off the car (see indoor photos of rear of car); they were removed for transport as I only have a tow dolley and the straps are too short to go around the oem wheels & tires. To be made roadworthy, the car needs exhaust work and engine compartment wiring work as the car had been partly converted to 12 volts, although overhauling the brakes would be advisable. Radiator is out of car, but is included. Note that 1947 and earlier Nash 600s had 16" wheels and a 4", 4-bolt mounting. 1948 Nash 600s changed to 15" wheels and 4-1/2", 5-bolt mounting (AMC, Ford & Chrysler bolt pattern) using different brakes & drums. A correct 1948 Nash Technical Service Manual is included with the car. I grew up in Cleveland, OH, where cars died of rust long before they died mechanically. Cleveland used a lot or rock salt on the streets, and it used to be a joke that you could put a car into a quiet room and simply listen to it rust! A lot more attention is given to corrosion issues by the manufacturers today so these issues pretty much don't exist. But, back in the "Old Days".... Consequently, when I purchase a collector car I'm really concerned about where it spent it's life. As I said earlier, I believe that this NASH spent it's life in Idaho. For someone that grew up in the "Rust Belt", the underside and general body condition is simply wonderful.
