Vehicle Detail
Accident free, smoke free and pet free car. No rips or tears in interior and no rust or worn paint etc. on exterior. Tires all quite good. Just inspected in October. Sunroof works and does not leak. 4.0 SOHC engine. Suspension good and quiet. Had a recall on the liftgate glass hinges, that has been replaced with the newer style. We have owned this car from afound 40k up to the current 96k mileage. Issues: 1) ABS light is on--New aftermarket hub on front left has a plug for abs sensor that does not fully seat in the harness connector. I never got around to replacing this plug with something like a set of traditional spade connectors, I think this might solve the problem. It came on right after the new hub and abs harness was installed. 2) right rear door does not unlock from the electric switch that is supposed to unlock all doors. The mechanical lock/unlock lever works fine. 3) serpentine belt replaced about 2 years ago as preventive maintenance by shop, a while later it started squeaking and continues to squeak. A very small spray of Belt Dressing quiets it up right away, then the squeak comes back after a few miles of driving. Belt shows no sign of wear or stress. 4) Transmission slips between 2nd and 3rd gears, and only these gears. If you drive gently or downhill it shifts fine, otherwise you need to let off the gas after 2nd gear to let it continue into 3rd gear. This began 2 weeks ago and the "service Engine light" came on a day or so later. Not knowing what kind of repair this will develop into and wanting to have a smaller 4-cylinder car anyway we chose to part with the Explorer. The other issues have been going on steady for quite a while without change, this issue is the one most worth considering if buying this vehicle.
