Vehicle Detail
1987 Mercedes Benz 560 SL. Beautiful taupe exterior with saddle tan leather interior. We purchased this vehicle in 2005, as the third owner. Originally purchased in Highland Park, IL. Original owner sold it to a family friend in California. My husband purchased this in 2005 and drove it back from Pasadena, CA, back to the Chicagoland area. It was an exhilarating trip across country in this beautiful classic car. I've been driving this car all summer and once my kids left for college put it in storage. My husband passed away 2 years ago and this was his project car/weekend driver. We put a bit over 13,000 miles on it since we purchased it. I noticed since I put it away in August that one of the tires is leaking a bit of air. Seems like a sign that it is time to move on. I know it is not good for a vehicle to sit. Here's what I know: Car run great. Just started it up today to rinse it off and photograph. Eclipse stereo with CD changer in trunk. Antenna works, as do all the lights, gauges and power windows. Chrome is in excellent shape. No rust. Never in an accident -- no door dings. Heat & defrost work well Since we've had the vehicle this is what we've done: New battery Replaced power steering reservoir, filter, and tubing -- had a small leak Rear brake pads & brake master cylinder replaced Changed oil regularly w/ MBZ filters & oil. (including extra oil with purchase) Projects items: Lock on trunk is not working. Have replacement lock -- didn't get a change to fix. Air is not blowing out of center vents. Took apart and tried to diagnose -- couldn't find source of problem. Replaced control mechanism. (Old unit included.) Air conditioning is not really cold. Tires are old and wheels have seen better days due to Chicago winter. (see pictures) Convertible top is in decent shape (window is CLEAR), but got a small tear when I was installing hard top. Sorry, I don't have a picture. I cannot remove top by myself. Dash has two small cracks up by windshield. Measure about 1" in length. This is a common occurence for this model. I am including MANY, MANY new-old stock Mercedes parts with the vehicle. My husband would purchase these as he came across this for future repairs/restoration. Some of the parts included are: Complete new carpeting (from previous owner -- to allow someone to remove old hard-wired cell phone & re-carpet) Complete set of new matching MBZ carpeted floor mats Oil filter, oil Ignition wire set AT filter kit Trunk lock Hood pad - old deteriorating pad removed Original rack for hard top and many more... Including original MBZ literature from time of manufacture. MBZ maintenance manual and 2-volume MBZ service manual. Item sold "as-is" with no warranty whatsoever. Payment: $500 non-refundable deposit due via PayPal within 48 hours of auction close. Balance due within 7 days of close of auction. Payment may be made via direct bank funds wire transfer, cash, or certified cashiers check. If paying with cashier's check, car will be released once funds have cleared. This car is a really strong driver. Body interior and exterior are really beautiful. I have to liquidate as I have two kids in college. If you like tinkering with classic cars -- you have stumbled across a real gem. Buyer responsible for arranging pick-up. I can be very flexible to accomodate. Located about 40 miles west of Chicago.
