Vehicle Detail
Up for Bid is an incredible find. An all original 1949 Buick Super 2dr. Sedanet with the new for '49 Dynaflow automatic transmission with GM's amazing "Torpedo" styling. The car is a time capsule with only 35,000 original miles. It is a very well equipped with the Dynaflow automatic transmission, factory wiper-washer system, AM Sonomatic push button in-dash Radio, electric clock, back-up lamps, Wide White-wall Tires with factory wide trim rings usually only found on the Roadmaster, and optional accessories like curb feelers on the right (curbside) of the vehicle to protect those white walls, a fuel door protector trim plate, a factory rear license plate trim/frame, and included, but not installed is a Factory NOS box containing a Fog-Lamp Kit with all brackets, wiring, hardware, clips, etc. even a complete set of installaton instructions from the factory. The car is Buick's first all new post-war design integrating "Cruiser-Line Venti Ports" which would appear on nearly every Buick since, and a unique tail-lamp design later used on the first generation Corvettes. The cars beautiful sweeping torpedo design, with one of the largest grilles ever to adorn a Buick, and the Bombsight Hood Ornament to point the way. The car has been well maintained since new, and recently has a new exhaust, and cleaning and sealing of the engine compartment. Nearly all the chrome and stainless are original except for the rear bumper which needed to be repaired from a minor dent. The car starts with Buick's unique "Automatic Starting System" by simply depressing the accelerator pedal. The original tube radio works well, the clock keeps great time, and all the lights are operational including the backup lamps, even the map light, and glove box light work. The car has adaquate power up hills, and can easily cruise at today's highway speeds, The brakes are also as capable as the engine. It's a great touring car with its 248 cu inch straight eight churning up 120 hp, with lots more torque. The car draws a crowd wherever we go and it's won many awards including best in show. The paint is in the original factory "Sunmist Chromium" which is now about 14-15 years old, but is holding up very well, even though there are a few scrathces here and there. The original paint is still showing well under the hood, in the trunk and door jambs. There is no rust on the car, and it shows and drives very well, but by no means is it a trailer queen. The interior seats were recovered, and new carpeting installed, but the remainder of the interior is all original including the headliner, and door panels. All of the glass is original, and clear with no cracks, or chips. I have all the original books, owners manuals, a shop manual and original liturature, and a custom fitted car cover. When registered here in CT only a bill of sale was required, and I do have the previous owners original OH title that goes with the car. According to the ID # the car was built in the Baltimore, MD plant. The original data tag included states it was built on 04/13/49. I have been the car's caretaker for the past four years, and I am hoping to find the next caretaker of this very fine automobile and piece of American History, and am hoping it will receive the same care that I have given it these past few years.
