Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a 2000 E39 M5. This is one of the best sports sedans ever made, period. Where else can you find a 4 door luxury sedan with a 6 speed manual that does 0-60 in under 5 seconds? Superlative handling, unsurpassed comfort, straightline speed, 400 horsepower, a 5-liter V8 with a tantalizing engine note that does 22mpg on the highway and 17 mpg in the city. I don't need to say a lot more about this car, if you are reading this you already know what a BEAST this car is. I did not like the Bangle-ized M5 with no clutch available, and held on to this one for 10 great years. I am selling it because I am not feeling good about storing it for another winter. If I can get a price which fairly recognizes the car's condition, I am ready to sell it. This particular car is a very rare find - totally babied, never driven hard, and in extremely good shape for its age. YES I am asking more than the wholesale pricing for this car because it's not normal in any way. If you want one of the best sports sedans ever made and you are a discriminating buyer you will care a lot more that you got a car that was really taken care of and looks as good as this one. If you are a hot-rodder, or you just want the awesome M5 power and you don't care about looks or whether the previous owner took care of the car, then just pass this one by.... I am not interested in giving it away after the love that went into taking care of it. I have all maintenance records - this care was totally babied and I'll pass it on to my son if you don't recognize it for the rare find that it is. This car was never driven in snow and seldom driven in the rain. I used it to drive to and from work and business travel, never as a utility car for errands or driving kids around. It has low miles as a result. I always had another car for any trip that involved my family, so as you can see, the back seat has hardly been used. No eating, no pets, no smoking, practically no passengers. The 2000 M5 is the only one that has a full leather interior - every surface is leather or wood. This includes a suede headliner and beautiful had stictched full leather dashboard. Standard Features include: Rain sensing wipers Tire Pressure Monitoring System Hands Free Steering Wheel with Buttons (why did they go to the iDrive)? 6 CD changer DVD Navigation Self DImming Rear and Side Mirrors Retractable Side mirrors Fully Integrated Cell Phone - I will include the Motorola cell phone for free! You have to pay for subscription to service though! TEC Cupholder - and $89 upgrade: http://www.tecaccessories.com/products/product.php?II=1 Seat Heaters on L and R 12 Way Adjustable Seats with 3 different Memories DSC - Skid Control - Provide "reigns" to keep the BEAST in control Sport mode - enhances throttle response Here are some unique features of this particular car that further differentiate it from the rest of the pack: Angel Eye Headlamps (not available on 2000 models, upgraded later) 19" aftermarket Chrome Rims New Tires - General UHP Exclain 245/35 ZR19's in front and 275/35 ZR19's in the rear - these were the top rated 3 season ultra performance tire available at www.tirerack.com M Audio Subwoofer (not available on 2000 models, upgraded later) Stainless Steel Exhaust UUC Short Shifter Nearly new tires with less than 5,000 miles on them. Lots of tread left - see the pictures. I have a full set of the original carpets that came with the car - I put in black OEM carpets because black wears better Aftermarket HELLA Blue/White Running Lights Includes manual and 2 sets of keys! OK I am into full disclosure so here are the imperfections with the car I was parking the car and scraped the right bottom of the front fascia on a curb - this resulted in some minor damage that is very difficult to see but is highlighted with arrows in the picture of the front of the car Although the car was professionally detailed at considerable expense (including clay, polsih, wax, etc.) there are the normal imperfections in the paint - small stone chips and minor etching where birds got it. One of the tires has a minor chunk out of the sidewall - not sure how it happened - did not effect the rim. You can see this defect in the second wheel picture, below the "a" in "Exclaim". The leather on the driver's seat is worn. I have purchased covers for the front seats which are shown in the pictures, but I did give you a close up of the wear. The alphanumeric display below the gauge cluster has bad pixels. I was going to get this fixed and never did - it can be fixed for about $350, but it didn't matter to me. The leather over the passenger airbag has shrunk a bit and there is a visible wrinkle in it. Could be stretched and re-glued, I never bothered. There will be no other surprises if you buy this car. I am not a greasy car salesman, I am an enthusiast who has bought and sold about 10 cars on e:bay and I have never left anyone feeling like they got screwed. As I said earlier, if you want to buy one from a dealer that has a lot more miles and was probably driven hard, go for it. If you want the best E39 on e:bay, you just found it. Terms of this Auction Ask all questions before you bid. I require a deposit of $1,000 within 24 hours of buying, then you have 7 days to pick it up here in the Farmington Valley, Connecticut. I will also assist if you want to arrange for shipping. This is a 10 year old car and runs very well. Although I have done my best to describe its imperfections it is a used car and you should not expect it to be perfect or require no maintenance in the future. If you take care of it like I did, I expect you will have the same great ownership experience. However, it is a used car sold "as is" with no warranty, express or implied. After paying the deposit, you are welcome to get a mechanic test before paying the balance due. If there is anything wrong with the car found during the inspection before you pay the balance due, I wil refund your deposit, so long as it's a significant problem (not normal wear and tear on a 10 year old car) or a case where I deliberately misrepresented the condition. I will not refund your money if you just change your mind on the car. Again, the onus is on you to ask all questions and do your own diligence before bidding or buying the car. Check my feedback, I have a perfect record and I leave a trail of happy customers. On Oct-25-10 at 19:09:30 PDT, seller added the following information: Note 1: Please do not bid if you have less than 10 transactions and/or a feedback score lower than 90%, unless you get prior approval from me. If you do not meet these criteria, I reserve the right to cancel your bid Note 2: There have been a few questions about the clutch. The clutch in this M5 is the original. The clutch does not slip and it works perfectly under normal and even "sporting" driving conditions, but it is certainly going to be far from new. I know that on the various BMW forums the clutch in the E39 M5 was rumored to be a weak link. This is not a total surprise given the horsepower that is coupled through the transmission. But I do know many other M5 owners besides me who have not had problems with their clutch for 40K and even 50K+ miles so I suspect many of the premature failures reported were due to the fact that many M5 owners drive their cars very hard. I have never launched the car, nor have I raced it on the track or off. I believe this can be verified on the ECU - I once had a service tech tell me my M5 was the only one he had ever seen that had never been driven over 100mph. Nonetheless, given the miles on the car and the fact that the clutch is original, you should assume you will need a new clutch in the near future and factor this into your bidding. If you do not like this clause, don't bid! Note 3: This car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early at my own discretion. On Oct-25-10 at 19:17:38 PDT, seller added the following information: Note 4: The car was serviced at New Country BMW in Hartford. I have most if not all service records. Oil was changed on schedule, and only the recommended Castrol Synthetic oil was used. The card did need a quart of oil between scheduled service early in it's life but in the last 4 years or so it has not needed additional oil. (This phenomenon has been noted in various BMW forums). Recent service includes replaced fuel pump (summer 2010), reprogrammed OBD to pass new automatic emissions test (last tested/passed in Summer 2009) and replacement of the thermostat controller (2008) which started to have a mind of its own. Air filters were changed at the 30,000 maintenance. Other than that, the car has been hassle free and aside from the imperfections noted above, it has no known problem. Drives like a dream. Note 5: There have been no accidents Note 6: As mentioned above, no smoking, no pets, very clean (see the pictures)On Oct-25-10 at 19:57:34 PDT, seller added the following information: Note 6: I have the title, it's clean and clear - in my name with no liens or problems whatsoever Note 7: I have received numerous (more than 1/2 dozen in first day alone) requests to come and see the car before bidding. I am a private seller not a used car dealer. As such, I am not going to show the car to people that have not won the auction and paid the deposit. I have sold an M3, an Audi S4, an Audi All Road, two Audi A6's, and Audi TT, and a Subaru WRX on e:bay and in every case the buyer was completely satisfied and left me positive feedback. However, I have learned the hard way that the performance cars can attract people that are not really serious about purchasing your car. They actually just want to take the car out on a joy ride. I had one such person launch my MTM 420HP 2000 Audi S4 with such force that he damaged the tranny. I had another get pulled over driving my 2002 M3 at over 90mph in a 35 mph zone. Turns out his license was suspended as well. I had to beg the local gendarmes not to impound my car! I know that none of YOU would do that but sorry I am not going to put myself in that situation again. If you win the auction and pay the downpayment, you can certainly drive the car/inspect it, etc. before you pay the balance. As I said, if anything is materially wrong with the car that I did not disclose or was unaware of, I will refund your deposit. I am happy to answer any questions you have in the meantime! Meanwhile you should trust that a person does not get 100% perfect feedback on 450+ transactions over ~15 years by misrepresenting items or screwing people. On Oct-26-10 at 11:30:20 PDT, seller added the following information: Note 8: I just thought of two other things that are wrong with the car. The rear cupholders are broken. Really those things are totally worthless anyway. I had them replaced 2X under warranty then I gave up. On the rare occasions my kids are in the car, they invariably open them and then break them. Also, there is a cassette tape (The Who Quadraphenia Live, a bootleg from the Keith Moon days if you care) in the tape deck that I can't get out. I will try with more diligence to remove it before I transfer but just in case I am throwing in one free Who tape which you can play continuosly to your heart's content. If you don't like the Who or you really need a working tape deck, don't buy this car!! Note 9: I purchased the cargo net for the trunk, which I will include... On Oct-27-10 at 06:56:10 PDT, seller added the following information: Note 10: great question about alphanumeric display "pixel problem" - see Q&A below.... Note 11: Many offers to do a deal off e:bay - sorry now that the reserve is met, I am not going to do a deal off e:bay. The high bidder will win this car. Buy-it-now is gone Note 12: There have been continued questions about the clutch and also some about the brakes. Guys listen, this is a 10 year old car with 45,000 miles on it. The clutch and the brakes are original. They work fine right now and it made no sense to me to put money into fixing something that was not broke and functioned normally. I think of it as a pleasant and unexpected side effect of taking care of the car - if you had told me when I bought it I'd get to 45K with no clutch change and no brake change, I wouldn't have believed it! But just think - this ought to be a telling indicator to all of you what a well taken care of, lightly driven, babied, unabused car this is. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THE CLUTCH AND BRAKES WILL NEVER NEED REPLACING. What I am willing to warrant is that the the clutch does not slip under my normal range of driving conditions, the brakes are fine (no fade, nice linear response, excellent stopping distance, etc.) right now. I don't launch the car (drop the clutch and burn the tires) but hey it's an M5 and I definitely give it the gas when appropropriate. I rev match pretty carefully, and I sometimes take off REALLY FAST (not dropping the clutch but threading it) and like I said, it works fine. But I want to state once again very clearly that I will NOT warrant the clutch and brakes against any future degradation that may occur after you buy the car. In fact, you should bid assuming it's going to be your responsibility to fix the clutch and brakes when they need it. Further, I will NOT accept any claim that you want a discount or refund because you found out the clutch was at X% and you think it should be Y%. And sorry, I have NO IDEA what X actually is, nor do I have any idea when the clutch will fail. Note 13: There is no rust on the underbody or wheel wells that I can see walking around under the car. Remember, the car was seldom driven in the wet and never driven in snow/salt. The exhaust is stainless and is in excellent shape - no holes, no advanced rot or corrosion. On Oct-30-10 at 12:33:30 PDT, seller added the following information: Note 14: The Who tape has been successfully extracted. The Tape Player works fine. Note 15: I have posted more gorgeous high resolution pictures at the following website: http://mofoe39bmwm5.shutterfly.com/pictures let me know if you can't see these. All these pictures were taken today! Car is clean and ready to go.On Oct-31-10 at 19:24:06 PDT, seller added the following information: Note 16: We are coming down to the wire....Some questions that I thought all would like to hear the answers to:The car is carbon black metallic not flat black. It's a beautiful color that look very very dark blue under just the right light - see the pictures I put onto shutterfly, I caught it with the camera flash. It's a metal flake finish which is usually a premium option in most cars but was one of the standard colors in 2000.the damage to the front fascia is cosmetic not structural. Most of the actual damage is underneath the car - can't easily see it unless you get under the car or put it on a lift - there is a plastic cover under the engine which I think is there for aerodynamic reasons - that's what was damaged - but it was repaired. Would be hard for you to tell anything was wrong at all but I mention it because I don't want the buyer to be surprised by anything. Look at the pictures - this is obviously a car that was well taken care of.I have sound files of my car's exhaust in mp3 format. if you send me your e:mail I will send them to you.The car was pre-wired for 6 disk changer, Nav DVD, and telephone and it has all three installed
