Up for bid today is a rare find, a first year E34 1989 BMW 535i E34 with a 5 speed manual transmission. THIS FEE IS FOR CALIFORNIA BIDDERS ONLY!!!!!!! This is a very rare car as only 5% of the total production of E34 535i's were ordered with the Getrag 5 speed manuals. Most of the E34 production was the small engined 525 and 95% of the bigger more powerful M30 enginged 535is were automatics. The 535i was the much more expensive E34 and few were sold compared to the 525 as the price of the 535 was getting close to that of the 7 series which was a more profitable model for BMW. With that being said the 535i was sold primarily to the "Top of the line" buyer in North America who wanted all of the options and with out a doubt and automatic was a must. In Europe and other markets in the world most car's are sold with manual transmissions and a smaller displacement engines. The 535's is becoming one of the most sought after collector cars as they are affordable as they are the last real mechanical BMW's. This California original Alpine white/Black leather 5 speed is like a needle in a hay stack. The front bumper is very nice with minor scratchs. The front grill is nice. The driver side fender is very nice with original paint. The passenger side fender is very nice with original paint. The driver side door is very nice and original. The passenger side door is very nice and original. The driver side quarter panel is very nice, very minor ding. The passenger side quarter panel has several dings like something rolled around inside the trunk. I have an estimate of $350.00 to make it perfect. The roof is very nice and original condition. The trunk like is nice but does have a small ding on edge. The rear bumper is nice. The tail lights are nice. The car has period correct German 3 piece B.B.S wheels that are 16 inch. These wheels were very expensive and were duplicated by many different companies, these are the real deal the tires are 225/50/ZR16 BF Goodrich G Force. They are in good condition not new but not worn out. There is a spare. Two of the BBS center caps are missing the BBS emblem. The undercarriage is in good condition with no rust. The front windshield is in good condition. The rear glass is very nice and has a high end tint job. The door glass is nice but the tint on the driver's window has some minor tears. The two front windows are in/op, the window motors are working and the regulators are working but the windows themselves are not on the tracks correctly. INTERIOR The leather seats are in good condition with normal wear. Leather in the back seats are fatigued with some age wear. The drivers seat is nice. Leather is in good condition with the exception of a small hole. The passenger seat leather is in good condition with the exception of the seat frame askewed. The frame can be corrected by a qualified trim shop. The rear seat is nice with some seperation at the seems. Leather is fatigued with some age wear. The car is equipped with 5 seatbelts. The carpeting is in good condition with normal wear. The headliner is in nice condition. It is a little dirty. The door panels are in nice condition with the exception of the passenger side door. Leather is separating and has been glued back. Should be replaced to be in perfect condition. The dash is in nice condition. The steering wheel is in nice condition. It is leather wrapped and has a separation at the top of the wheel. The visors are in nice condition. The car is equipped with a AM/FM CD. The car's shift knob is not original and the end of the knob has the ability to spin. The trunk is nice. ELECTRICAL The air conditioning is in operating condition. Blows cold. The heater is in operating condition. The defroster is in operating condition. The windshield wipers are in operating condition. The vehicle is equipped with cruise control but it is no longer in operating condition. The brakes are in good condition. They are 4 wheel power disc brakes and it is equipped with ABS. The vehicle is equipped with a drivers side airbag. The vehicle is equipped with power steering. The vehicle is equipped with dual power seats. The vehicle is equipped with dual power mirrors. The vehicle is equipped with power windows. All operate correctly. The drivers and passenger front windows are off the tracks. The vehicle is equipped with power locks. MECHANICAL The 3.5 litre engine is in good operating condition. We have detected a leak at the valve cover gasket. There is some throw out bearing noise. The 5 speed manual transmission shifts smooth in all gears. The vehicle runs at proper operating temperature. The radiator was replaced 1 year ago. The shocks are in good condition. The exhaust is in good condition. There is no frame damage or modifications. The front suspension is getting tired, the bushings will need to be replaced, it has been checked by a CPO BMW tech, it will need to be addresed in the near future. As for the miles, The true miles are unknown. I last drove the car with known miles at about 185,000 miles. A CPO BMW tech diagnosed the problem as the dash bulb is out. Therefore with a new bulb the miles will read digitally again. Here is some additional information about the BMW 535i: The E34 535i was introduced in Europe as a 1988 model but was not available in North America until 1989. Production of the E34 535i ended in 1993, replaced by the V8 530i and 540i models. Despite the 535i designation, the M30 engine found in the E34 535i was actually 3430cc. Only 5% of total production 535i's were 5-speeds. The BMW M30 is an inline-6 cylinder engine built by BMW and was used in many different models since 1968. It was originally developed in the late 1960s as an extended 2.5 liter version of the robust inline four cylinder BMW M10 first used in the 'Neue Klasse' BMW 1500, with which it shares a number of design features, including a 30-degree cant to the right for a lower profile, a cross flow head design, and a chain-driven single overhead cam with rocker arm valve actuation. The 'Big Six,' also known as the 'Senior Six,' got its informal names after the introduction of a smaller BMW M20 belt-driven SOHC six cylinder in the late '70s. The M30 powered a series of BMW 6-cylinder E9 and BMW E24 coupes toEuropean Touring Car Championship (ETCC) throughout the '70s and into the middle 1980s, even though a more powerful DOHC 24-valve head had been developed for high performance motorsports and street use. A production turbo variant of the M30 designated the M102B32 or M106B34 (depending on 3.2 or 3.4 liter displacement) was used in the BMW E23 Seven Series where it was designated "745i", based on a then-current projection that the horsepower produced was roughly equal to that of a 4.5 liter normally-aspirated engine. The 3.5 DOHC M5 and M6 engine was used in the South African 745i from 1984-1986. Newer M30 engines featured Bosch L-Jetronic multipoint fuel injection and Motronic. BMW's M30 straight six cylinder engines had the longest production run of any BMW engine, dating back to the 1968 E3 sedans and E9 coupes. The last use of the block was the 1994 E32 730i. Displacement ranged from 2.5 to 3.4 liters with a 100 mm bore spacing. The M30 engine's bottom end is virtually 'bulletproof' and a true workhorse. The M30's timing chain is designed to last the life of the engine and it will, if the timing chain tensioner is maintained. Unfortunately, over time and use, the plastic parts in it can fail but they are easily replaced. The alloy head is prone to warping if the engine is overheated (especially around the somewhat restricted cooling system passages near the middle), but with regular cooling system maintenance, oil changes, and otherroutine maintenance, the M30 can routinely run well past 250,000 miles. The BMW E34 is the version of the BMW 5 Series automobile built from February 1988 to 1995. It replaced the BMW E28 in 1988 and was replaced by the E39 in 1996, although E34s were still being sold in 1996. The E34 succeeded the BMW E28 in 1989 with two models. The 525i used the BMW M20 engine while the 535i used the larger M30. The cars were a blend of BMW tradition and modern technology. BMW's traditional FR layout and straight-6 were used, providing the smooth engine and optimal weight distribution BMW customers had come to expect. The E34 also had a much stiffer body and was streamlined than its predecessor, looking very much like the BMW E32 7-series.
