Vehicle Detail
1978 Ferrari 308 with 34821 miles. This car was purchased from an insurance auction. It had an engine fire mainly on the driver’s side from a fuel leak. It currently has a State of Michigan salvage vehicle Certificate of Title. I was planning to restore this car so I have collected most of the parts needed to rebuild it. The engine still has oil in it and you can see oil on the cams through the oil cap opening. The water pump turns freely. I have not turned over the engine because the thin aluminum distributors are melted from heat locking the cams in place and I did not want the valves to hit the pistons if the timing belts were bad. The only other melting was the air tube in one of the carburetors and most of the rubber hoses which had fuel or oil in them. I have poured oil through the carburetor to lube the top end of the motor. The engine will need to be torn down and checked over during a major engine service. For the engine, I have collected a complete set of four carburetors with linkage, gaskets, nuts, bushings, gas lines; distributor assembly with wires, caps, rubber boots, coils; complete wiring harness which could be used in complete or spliced in to the old harness; oil cooler with shrouding; driver’s side gas tank and fill neck with cap and the cross over pipes to passenger side fuel tank; complete fuel pump with filter and lines; and belts and hoses for cooling and A/C. Most of the hoses etc should be replaced with new, but can be used for sizing and lengths. To repair the body damage, I have collected a complete 308 Targa top with all latches and seals; complete engine cover with all catches, light for license plate, grills and heat shields; a hatch spoiler; rear and both side quarter glass with gaskets; rear tail light with side quarter marker lamp; trunk fiberglass fillers and carpet with insulation (carpet and insulation will need to be replaced but can be used for patterns); a complete NOS driver side rear quarter, tail light section and lower fiberglass wheel well; rear muffler section; and power antenna with snap cover. The interior of the car had some heat damage but no flame damage. Much of the interior is constructed of aluminum panels with vinyl and pad stretched and glued to them and then riveted in place. Some of the driver’s side vinyl has melted and needs replacing. The seat leather is dried out and was weather damaged due to no top on the car for a time. I have replacement seats and complete door panels from a low mileage 1978 car that can be redyed or recovered, as well as a good dash because the original has sun damage. This car needs to be restored and could be a very nice car with some work – a great winter project. The parts I have collected are in good condition; they came off a low mileage (14,000 miles) 1978 car that was converted to a race car. Please feel free to look at the pics and e-mail me with questions and I will try to answer. Thank you for looking!
